nat problem!!! please help!!!

iv tryed dish soap in a spray bottle and water to try and keep nats away but it just wont work!!! what can i do? theres thousands of them in my 2 plants (maybe about 100 total)

get some play sand, let soil dry way out, water with peroxide, then cover soil with 1 inch of sand.

Supposibly h2o2 is suppose to kill larve, sand deters adults from layin more eggs, also letting soil dry out deters them.

Or if you can find some, gnatrol works.

Oh yeah put out some the yellow sticky strips. U know, fly strips

i agree with wheelerman. what are your current temps in your grow area? from experience overwatering and heat is what bought on our nats. just do what wheelerman says. if it doesnt help and gets worst change your soil. that'll get rid of them.

Good advice if you have to control the larva first or you will just keep getting more gnats. Keep spraying them too and put out sticky traps for added control.

silica sand on top of the soil will stop the adults from laying more, keep that for at least 2 weeks, i would go with neem oil, its a natural killer, that will kill any larva,
but to see if you have larva put a slice of raw potato on the soil for a few hours,
the neem oil is alot safer then using peroxide.

Everything everyone said is true and will definately work. I personally had the same problem because of high temps in between 80 - 90 degrees and overwatering. Organic soil is very prone to gnat larvae because they thrive in the decomposition of the organic matter so sometimes you just get screwed if you buy orgainc soil that's way moist. and overwatering will definately bring it on. If you try all of those suggestions and ultimately still have gnats... you can transplant them into new soil and just let them sit for a week (or however long it takes, in our case it was 11 days before they completely dried out) and then water them ONLY AFTER THE ENTIRE MEDIUM IS DRY. You can kill a plant alot faster overwatering then underwatering. TRUST ME I KNOW! I had gnats so bad it took two of my indicas. The other three made a COMPLETE turn around after we transplanted them into new soil and larger buckets. I try to use Hydrogen Peroxide every other time I water (80% water and 20% Hydrogen Peroxide) it is great for the roots. It helps them aerate and will prevent larvea from starting or returning. It won't harm your plants at all and doesn't change the PH. GOOD LUCK!

Neem oil did not work for me, i tried it, and peroxide brings oxygen to roots, read up a little more in grofaq buddy. Later

He was just saying that neem oil is safer than peroxide, which is true. Peroxide in to high concentrations can kill your plants

I'm not going to argue with you there because I don't know anything about neem oil... Only heard of it and it's organic right? All I know is i've used Hydrogen Peroxide with great results to get rid of gnats. I've never lost a plant to it... Either way I hope you get rid of those little bastards.

Honestly man, after reading this quote here again... If you say you got 1000's of em... Your best bet would be to get fresh dry medium, new buckets or pots, use that HP/Water mixture I mentioned above and transplant them ASAP. Completely discard the old container and dirt and get it out of your house and away from your plants. Just don't overwater or they will come right back. If it makes you feel even more confident about it toss a thin layer of sand on top of the new soil. If you need to clear out your area as well as your plants just use your vaccuum and suck them all up. Throw some fly traps or sticky strips around your girls to catch the remaining pests. Don't waste your time trying to get rid of the flies while the eggs in your soil are eating up and destroying your roots. Just think... If you have that many above the soil, think of how many are grubbin' out on your roots! God I hate GNATS! They destroy our hard work!

I agree, keep your grow room clean and your medium sterile and you should have no problems.
