National Guard

Yes, it is theft. When you get paid, do you care where the funds came from or do you just take it like everyone else and pay your bills?

Well, I get drunk from time to time and a lot of drunk drivers kill a lot of innocent people. Does that also mean that I have contributed to vehicular homicide because I drank a bottle of jack?

I actually grew up saying sir and ma'am and most people have higher ups that they have to deal with.

Because I'd have to risk going to prison each time that I did it and the latter provides me a steady cash flow with federal government into the 6 digit range and no jail time.

We could seriously do this all day.

Doing business with thieves is something I try to avoid.

Getting drunk is your choice. Who you associate with is too.

If you believe that thieves are your "higher ups", then call them sir. Heck, call them master if you like.

So your morality is based on "legal" and illegal" rather than right and wrong? Well be safe and don't kill too many babies. If you do, make sure they're bad babies, you know the kind that want to steal your freedom.

I did not make my point clearly. In the old days, when I was in the Army, you had to be politically connected to get into the Reserves, or the Guard. An average Joe could not get in. It was reserved for people like Dan Quayle, or George W Bush. All they did was train for one weekend a month and a couple of weeks in the summer. It was a way of dodging the draft. That is not true any more. If you join the guard, and if there is a war going on somewhere, you will deploy. If you are willing to do that, then join.
Bush only did that so he wouldnt have a draft.

If there was a draft Iraq wouldnt of happened

Anyone know the chances of being called to fight if there is a war?
Slim to none
They got called up this last time becuase Bush new people would march on the white house if everyone was tapped to potentially fight in his misadventure

He also wanted to prove that the Gaurd does fight
Even though he spent his time during the vietnam war protecting us from an aerial invasion from Mexico

I've been thinking about joining, mainly to help pay off my student loans and to further my career opportunities. I haven't made up my mind yet, but any advise would be great.
Hey, you are signing up to fight, OK? Don't do it if you can't pay the butcher bill.

Also, everyone I know that went in with an attitude of gimme instead of service was sadly disappointed by the military bullshit.

And if you can't swallow bullshit and barf candy bars you have no chance. :)

The National Guard? Thats civilians going out and playing Army one weekend a month. Its not the Army, no discipline needed, you don't really have to obey orders or do anything other than fog a mirror. Basic will be the hardest thing you do, and Army basic is EASY, almost as easy as Air Force Basic, but not quite as Easy as Navy basic.

All the real men joined the Marines, fuck that shit is HARD.

Chance of going to Afghanistan or Syria? 100%, they need fresh meat to look for IED's all the time.

That's right. The Guard stands rotation down range these days. How many fronts can we fight without the Guard?

They don't get to train much, but do they piss test?

Hey, there are better ways to pay back loans, unless you are dude that can get vicious and likes to blow things up.

Yup, they piss test frequently.
Pop positive and lose every benefit.

Why half ass it and do the guard? Why not simply join the Army or Navy or some other branch? Chances of getting deployed are about the same, and if your a "regular" you get better equipment.

I was going to join the Marines several years ago when I was at the end of my rope with no where else to turn, but then things worked themselves out.

Not worried about a piss test, I can quit smoking weed at any time, and I do like to blow things up along with shooting at things also.

I had that same mindset once upon a time, and my fiancee wouldn't allow me to join any other branch.

Then the Guard is NOT for you.

The only time you shoot your rifle is during yearly qualification.
The only time you blow shit up is if you are a combat engineer and get the annual demo training.
Otherwise you get to clean toilets and stand around a lot.

The National Guard, useful during a flood, otherwise just a bunch of civilians playing Army.

Stop smoking weed....wow. Reality check. So, the girl wants you in the Guard, so you stay at home until you deploy with no training? That's the girls.

Join the Air Force...don't go open enlistment or open "some speciality" go in to a recruiter and ask to crew chief b-52's or some other long range bomber with b-52 you can go to North Dakota or Louisiana with deployment to Guam or Diego Garcia for only a few months. If you have serious questions pm me I can def make sure you know what to ask or get the job you want....the recruiters will screw you over if given a chance seriously their job is to fill certain positions not take care of you hit me up if you need
