Nats please help

I have nats in my room ... The guy that is mentoring me is telling me that they are a none issue so long as i don't do any trimming to the plants to allow them access to the plant . Is this true ? Should i worry ? I am 15 days into flower with a soil grow . I do have 1 dwc bucket going but i don't think that's part of the problem. The pots are large over sized pots 25gal totes . I water about every third day or when the dirt is no longer sticking to my finger . I have had no other bug issues . I did have humidity issue but i just got that under control with a unit . with lower humidity help with the nat problem ?
I don't want to use any chemicals on bugs so if anyone has an organic cure to my issue please give me some hints or tips .

Try powdered Cinnamon on the soil. I heard it works good. You can find more info on gardening sites/forums.

i used fly strips all around the plants and also added a layer of perlite to the top of the soil, took care of mine :peace:

use pyrethrum its mostly natural i use Dr doom the spidermite knockdown it works awesome one spray around the base and everything is dead:)you'll do alot of other stuff and it dont work...

Gnats are a gnatural gnative of living soil. If they get too gnarly there are gnumerous and gnifty control strategies. Gnormally however, a few gnats gnibbling and gnoshing on soil fungus won't gneed a gnasty response. If your gnats do go gnuke, I agree that cinnamon is gnap time for the little gnippers. Gnot to worry. cn

cinnamon works ! for real !

i did this 2 days ago actually, you'll notice within a day . I sprinkled cinnamon around the top soil, I was un sure to water with the cinnamon on the top soil so i scooped it up and disgarded it. I watered and everything is good ! Im actually 2 week of flower as well and had this same problem. I added fly strips and cinnamon and the nats are gone. !

I'm confused, are you in soil? if so just let that shit dry out, the adult gnats aren't the problem, its the larvae that eat your roots(you might tell your mentor that).
The adults are an easy kill the larvae are the problem.

nematodes are good too. Mosquito dunks too, the ones with BT , its a bacteria that the larvae eat and end up sick as fuck, first thing they do is stop eating(your roots), you won't see the larvae unless you look for them, they're down in your roots.

I think your onto something with the cinnamon... I only ever had a problem with gnats when I used junk soil (miracle grow).. With fox farm, I never have gnat problems...

I dunno about that but it may not allow them access to your roots. diatomaceous earth is what you want to put on top of your soil, the adults try to get down in your medium/roots to lay eggs. the layer of diatomaceous earth has razor sharp edges and cuts them and they bleed to death, its great.

Your mentor does not know what he is talking about. Fungus gnat larvae feed on the fine root hairs of your babies, slowing growth and opening pathways for pathogens to enter your plants system. They are called fungus gnats because they drastically increase the chances that a fungus will attack your plants.

Gnatrol works very well at controlling the bugs. Adults lay eggs, but do not feed or damage the plants. The larvae live in the soil and eat root hairs. Gnatrol is organic, that is a natural bacteria that kills these larvae when they eat it. It will not hurt you at all if used properly.

but the diatomaceous earth is a preventative, you've possibly already got them laying eggs in your medium/roots. I don't know first hand but it sounds right to me that if you let your soil dry out real good it kills the larvae, personally I'd do the nematodes if I were you and I'd probably also do the BT mosquito dunks since both should be compatible, I'd probably also do the diatomaceous earth just to keep the bastards out in the future.

thanks for the advise . Box thats why i posted on here i know that he nor anyone i have met in real life or on here "knows everything " Good thing we have interwebs so we can ask and get a good idea from a wide range of people with a wide range of ideas . I love this place thanks for the help guys/ gals

sand and gonat works great all natural cedar oil extract smells nice too, also zero tolerance for the adults, azamax works as well, sulfur burn will kill adults first shoot, only do sulfur in veg with lights off vent room 2 hrs before lights on, add more perlite to your soil to help it dry out faster coco works as well

ya know i've never had a problem with gnats until i started using roots oraganics soil. Their soil has bugs in it for reals ! . since I haven't had a problem with it until now i've never treateed for it. I'm also worried about the larva now (paranoid from reading this shit. ! i use super roots air pots http://www.amazon.com/Superoots-3-4-Gallon-12-5lt-Air/dp/B004AW769C and it would be hella easy for them to infest my soil ! . nematodes i guess ? diatomaceous earth would work for the top soil but what about the sides of the air pots ? O_0
