Nature vs Nurture

I'm sure this topic has been booted around this forum before, but I want to start a thread on this because a different thread was being derailed over it. What are the opinions out there? Does the dna of a seed/plant play a bigger, or lesser role than the skill and experience of the gardener growing said plant when looking at the finished product? My position is as follows:

Assuming that someone has the basics down; ie they know how to properly feed and water a plant. They know what type of light to use and how high above the canopy to keep it. They have a moderate temp and relative humidity dialed in, no light leaks, and have good air flow throughout the garden. The basics. Once a grower has the basics down, I feel that the genetic coding of said seed/plant plays a much bigger role in the finished product than any skill, trick, or bottle of whatever used on the plant will play. I'm not denying that how you care for your plants matters, I'm just saying it matters to a much lesser degree than the plants dna. Some people strongly disagree with my position.

A hypothetical scenario was introduced in to the conversation. Grower A has been growing for decades, and is given a cut of a plant that typically tests at 10%thc, and is an all around average plant as far as taste, smell, bag appeal, potency, etc. Grower B is newer to gardening, he has the basics down but has only been at this for a year or so, and he is given a cut of some fire. A great genetic plant that tests at 20% thc, and is a keeper in any garden. I say grower B ends up with the best finished product every time simply due to genetics, and others are saying that grower A, despite having a genetically inferior plant, will end up with the best finished product every time.

What are your thoughts?

I agree, assuming you're talking about potency. all the care in the world wont make a week plant stronger.
sometimes people remind me of wine snobs when talking about weed. The taste, the flavor, the smell etc..People around here don't really care about that, they just want to get fucked up

I agree with you 100% personally. If a average grower has some premium genetics, they will grow the better bud than an advanced grower with shitty genetics.

Damn straight bro! id be listening to this guy haha but if you want my two cents in on this little discussion, it doesent matter if you been growing for 100 years or less haha if you growing a mersh strain with mersh genetics its still gonna be mersh, its like no matter what a dog is a dog even if you dress it up like a cat haha.

Nurture plays a larger, more important role when the plant being grown is of poor genetics. Overall, I believe that nature is the key. The best can still be great if not grown by a top notch grower. I see this as a two sided answer. Great genetics are great regardless of the grower but poor genetics will stay poor. On the other hand, those poor genetics can have their full potential brought out by a great nurturer. The question one should pose should be, am I a great nurturer? If so then you can't go wrong! If you're not a great nurturer then you'd better get the god genetics to makeup for your growing flaws.
