near harvest... need help

I have read until I'm dying. My plants, in soil, had a large number, most actually, of the larger, older fan leaves turning a pale yellow. Not "dead" yellow. I've gotten a lot of them off the plants when they just pulled off. Now most of the fan leaves are the smaller newer ones and are green. All the buds have crystals all over them now but only one really has an odor. Are these things normal? I should have 3 weeks left. I have read nitrogen, Mg, pH...

Week 6 starts today and I plan to begin flushing on friday or next monday to get a two week flush. I just read that in 2 gallon pots that you can't flush out the taste of the nutes. Please tell me this is horse puckey, that can't be right, is it? If so i am flushing the HELL out of them the last week. I also saw on youtube, a ldy named Sarah Flowers, and she was saying a way to be extra sure on the flush is to first cut your plant at the base at harvest but before you hang to dry she says to put it a vase with R/O or distilled water for a day or two. Has anyone tried this.

This is my first decent looking crop (5th) since I started using good seed and an HID 400 watt hps. Before i got decent results with mexi-schwag seeds in MG soil but now I use Fox Farm soils, botanicare and/or fox farm nutes (I finally have a good water/feed schedule) and seeds from Attitude from companies like Greenhouse, emerald triangle, Dinafem, Kannabia, sensi seeds, reserva privada etc... So any help will be excellent. If I can get this to finish nice I know for sure my next crop will be the first real GOOD one as I am more confident in what i am doing now but i still need help.kiss-ass

Nice grow Clint. The leaves yellowing at this stage is pretty normal but if you were to feed them right they would still be green. Not saying that in a condescending way at all, just saying if the right nutes were there they would still be green. They need P & K at this point. I would forget about the two week flush; most commercial growers do not flush at all and the plants need that extra nutrition because they are about to make that last big push and the colas will swell up - but only if they have the food to do it with. If you just give them water, they won't. I think Sara Flowers is full of shit.

no worries mate, I was growing in FFOF and had problems getting to get these clones to grow. They are all my clones. last run of these strains.I figure i was afraid of over doing it with the nitro and given them that weird, soft leaf problem. I just read a bit on growing in FFOF and it said to add a bit of your "grow" nutes during the last week of veg. I did do this. I just cut my nutes down so i can feed with every water twice a week. I am guessing that I could have given it a little more N in that solution and maybe use it for the last veg week and the first week of flower. It also said to give it a splash of N at the end of the 4th week. Do you think that would be too much?

I use botanicare nutes for the most part, but I am on a tight budget and use the fox farm oraganics in BIG bottles I have.

Ok the straight questions in my head.
1. should i use "grow" nutes all the way thru veg even though FFOF has nutes for 3-4 weeks or should I start to add it later in veg?

2. When should I top my plants to get the four resulting tops I want to keep? I think i topped this batch too late.

3. the guy had the hydro store has heard my issues that I had with my plants before this run and he told me to "cut my nutes in half and feed your plants every time you water". To keep the soil wet but not drowning. What is your opinion on this? I think before i was slamming it with a bunch of nutes on every other water.

4. so you are saying do not flush the soil before harvest AT ALL? Won't that give a harsh taste. i don't know as I am a NEWBY NEWB Mc NEWBERTON to grpwing. but i have heard flush slush slush.

5. in the last two to three weeks, is this when my buds should bulk up the most or something and hopefully start stinking.

Thank you for the help

1. i use grow nutes all the way thru the flowering cycle but at around 1/4 of the strength, its gives them nitrogen and keeps the leaves green, all my friends do this and more than a few people in here too.
2. i tend to top on my last week of vegging, it gives them 1 week to recover before flowering(i usually veg for around 3 to 4 weeks)
3.i agree with the hydro shop guy, two good feeds/water each week is normally enuff.
4. when in soil ive only flushed to correct mistakes(over nuting) or if a plant is looking ill and i cant determine the exact problem. its a rare occurrence for me too flush. btw you can buy flushing additives if u need or want to, ive got some but havn't used them. may do it this time though as im using dwc.
5. last last couple of weeks is when most bud growth does happen although in my opinio and experience during the very last 2 weeks the chances are you wont really see it. this is because its the inside of the already formed bud thats becoming more dense. it'll become firmer to the touch and it sure as fuck throws the weight on but its not visible to the eye.

So if you veg for four weeks, top at the beginning of week four?
I thought of useing that sledgehammer flush but don't know enough about it.
so the buds wont get fatter very much but heavier?
not flushing does not give it a "nutey" taste at all?
I have one STICKY plant that is starting to smell fruity. the other ones do not have a true aroma yet even though they have tons of crystals, is this normal or will it happen before harvest?
Will crystal production continue until harvest or do they stop at a certain age?

sorry for the barrage of ??s

1. yes, thats how i do it.
2. never heard of sledgehammer myself but they probably all work in a similar way. i dont know if their any good myself.
3. the buds will fattena bit but in my experience they tend too become more dense and therefore heavier
4. never noticed a strong 'nutey' taste or smell myself, i believe this problem is more common in hydro grows as the nute levels are higher and it appears more 'chemical'
5. some palnts smell really strong, some don't. thats about all i can say. when u think there ready chop a little side bud fast dry it in the oven or with a hair-dryer, smoke it and then make the decision.
6. crystal production will eventaully slow down and stop but this is difficult to see if they are heavy with them anyway. just use the fast drying method to check or magnify the trichomes and do a check that way. i dont bother my arse, i just guess by looking. after a few grows most of this becomes instinctive.

Right now all the crystals are clear mushrooms so I know it's about 3 weeks for indica, "maybe" four weeks for my sativas. i just can't stand the wait but i gotta be patient and diligent on cleaning my space once a week as it is a bathroom. After i had an abomination a a spider mite infestation that happen when i was SICK and i don't trust anybody here to come and care, my fault, I started cleaning once a week and neeming my veg plants. i pull all the plants out and use a pump sprayer with the hose to bleach the bathroom thuroughly, wipe with distilled water, let air out GOOD for couple hour while my ladies wait under the T5s. This prevention has kept the mites from getting me so far.

Do you tie down your plants or let them grow natural?

Also, do I have a profile pic showing?

ello clint man, they look good from what i can see man, obviously we dont see what the naked eye can see but i am at the exact same stage as u and i am sufering severe yellowing and some bad looking leaves also but i think they av enough green on them for the next 3 weeks ( i think ) so i will be making similar decisions soon, i av 5 in there 3 white widows one looks sick leaf wise but bigish buds the other 2 WW are just very yellow and i av a pine apple chunk she looks good anda sativa bag seed thats very slow to bud up, but my main girls 3 WW should b done when urs are so i wish u look on the last leg m8. peace !

1. Use the grow nutes for veg and use flower nutes for flowering. They have the right proportions of NPK for the plants life cycle and you want to feed it what it needs, when it needs it.

2. It doesn't matter how old they are; just leave 4 nodes on the bottom to get 4 main colas.

3. I think it's best if you feed them on a consistent basis, not "nuking" them. You don't want the chemistry fluctuating wildly all the time.

4. If you want to flush, then do it but many good growers do not. If I were to flush, I would not go over 5-7 days, otherwise you are starving your plant when it needs to feed the most in all it's life.

5. There is a big increase that happens to the buds during the last few days to a week, not 2 weeks. The buds pack on weight and density mostly, not bulk.
