Need a hand with my worm bin

Hey all-

I got my worm bin started a few weeks ago and they’re still not happy and trying to escape. My bedding is coir and shredded paper with some rock dusts. I am in a 45 gallon tote and drilled dozens of holes along the top of the bin. When I open the top, it seems like it’s too wet as the cover is wet, and the castings along the sides and top appear wet, but when I reach into the bedding it doesn’t feel wet at all. I cannot squeeze drops of water out of it. So confused as to what to do? Any tips?

Use sphagnum peat moss. Feed them coffee grounds and alfalfa pellets. Put thier feed in the middle of the container, this allows the worms to escape any feed that heats up. Include silica sand for drainage. Before you innoculate use 1-tsp dawn dish soap as a wetting agent.

I will get on changing out the bedding to peat. I have alfalfa pellets and will start to include that. Assume agsil16 is different that the silic sand since it’s water soluble silica? Aloe powder ok for a wetting agent?

I would mix up the medium real good and water it well. Be careful with alfalfa as it gets hot and can kill your worms. I don’t feed my worms kitchen scraps, but the amendments I use to make/amend soil. What goes in must come out in a more plant friendly way.

Hey maybe you should get the fuck out of the organic section chungay. Jesus Christ man. All us real organic heads know the truth. What can you teach me about plant nutrition that my worms can’t do better.

You are getting condensation inside the bin due to a lack of airflow. That’s why they don’t like it in there & want to escape. I had exactly the same problem with my own DIY worm bin. Increase the number of air holes especially in the bottom; they like plenty of airflow. It should not be stifling in there.
I cheated and purchased a worm factory 360 which they have never tried escaping from. The trays have waffled bottoms which allows air and worms to flow through the entire stack. Makes harvesting castings very easy and there’s a spigot on the bottom which flows worm leacheat. It’s like liquid gold; natural & highly active soluble plant food. I dilute it w/water about 2x weekly.
