hi,

ok so my problem is that i think my ballast my be dead,

my electric went off this morning, my misses flicked the trip switch to turn it back on without unplugging my lights first, one went back on and the other didnt come on, this has happened before but i just took another ballast and bulb i had spare and hooked that one up.... so this time i tried the blub from my other light (the one that failed first time this happened) and it didnt come on, i went out and got a brand new bulb came home fitted it plugged the ballast in and still nothing, tried changing the fuse in the plug and still nothing,,,

sooo my problem is that i now have 2 600w ballasts that i guess are fucked.. i have no idea about electrics and how a ballast works...

has this happened to anyone and do you know if i can fix it?????

i have no money to buy a new ballast!!

please help my plants are 5 weeks in to flower and i think im goin to loose them :(

If they are magnetic ballasts, you can replace the parts that break (capacitor, igniter) separately. I run an electronic ballast so i can't give you diagnostic instructions ... but magnetic ballasts are serviceable. cn

thank you..... it seems strange to me that both lights are on the same contactor, same ballasts same bulbs but one has survived this twice while the two ballasts (that have bee plugged in to the same socket on my contactor) have both fucked up..... will look into a power strip now.

so i guess there is now way to fix it ??? well other than by a new one ? :(

I've been looking online for HID ballast repair instructions ... but haven't found anything good. It's weird ... i should have found something.

I would suggest contacting the manufacturer ... they can probably help you troubleshoot and get repair part specs. cn

If they are magnetic HPS ballasts then the surge probably cook the igniters while trying to fire a hot bulb. They are cheap to replace. One easy test is to screw in a MH bulb into the HPS ballast to see if it fires. If so the igniter is bad. If not then the core may also be damaged...heres a link to my favorite ballast info page http://www.gelighting.com/na/business_lighting/education_resources/literature_library/ballast/downloads/198217_HID_Ballast_Application_Guide.pdf
cool il try that too thanks
