stick to the smaller cfl bulbs and use more (I.E. 4 13 watt bulbs versus 1 48 watt bulb)...... there's less of a chance of burning your house down with the smaller ones too, and you can get 'em way close to the plant where cfls belong.... Look into building a vented/reflective hood for your space, @B166ER420 has a very nice one that seems reasonably easy to assemble, its a great way to keep bulbs and sockets and cords organized, also lets you attach some into serious air movement.... You'll need more light for flower than veg, so maybe scoop up another box of the 2600k color (soft white) and some socket "Y" splitters......

holy crap!!!!!! What's that strain on the right? And do you think I have enough light for veging? And do I need more for flowering?
Lol...that's just half the closet:eyesmoke:
If I remember you have 3cfls and are gonna add more ??I would definitely add more bulbs. How many plants??How tall of a grow space do you have???
I can tell you I veg 4 plants under 5 23w cfls for 4-5 weeks no prob.I have a slick little diy hood too....so maybe that helps my case.

I should add I always top my plants for four tops because with lights and containers added I only have about 3.5-4ft of grow space.

they are fairly easy to make. I took 5" circle hvac ducting that is split down the middle and bent it out into a half circle. then you can ziptie 2 power strips inside and then viola fixture.

get some plug socket to bulb connector. then get some Y connectors and you can mount up to 2 or 4 bulbs. just keep adding Ys. but dont get them to far out or theyll fall off the strip.

you can do the circle ducting with strip, or some like B166 is a square and looks to have actual bulb sockets wired together in series then all wired to one main whip that plugs into the wall. then it has a fan in the middle which is good idea, or have a fan pointing up at lights is good too.

Hey Brother,

I get killer yield's with CFL'S. It's all in how you prepare your setup. You need highly reflective wall's, really good air circulation, proper lamp placement, good soil or soilless media, great bean's, good nutrient's and finally properly PH'd water. To me it just sound's like you're jumping in too fast. Are you growing in a tent or box? Personally I think it's a waste of time if you don't create a perfect microclimate, meaning a proper grow area as stated earlier. Read everything you can on this site before you make a decision. Everyone in the above post's have all great advice, experience and setup's, furthermore they know what work's for them. It took me ten month's to perfect my small box, I will be putting the finishing touches on my setup in a couple of week's, my exhaust / carbon filter combination. Just figuring this ventilation system out took me a couple of week's of searching the Web. I guess what I'm saying is don't jump into something on a whim, these items cost money and sometime's you can't return them, at least not easily. I'm in no way trying to discourage you, I just think more information / research would greatly benefit you're grow's.

Good luck. Hindsight's always 20/20.

I'd recommend hitting the lighting section of Home Depot, they have
ceramic light sockets for $2-$3,
Y splitters for ~$3, Don't be afraid to put a couple Y's inside another Y to make nice 4 way sockets!
and power strips for less than $5
You could easily build a "bathroom" style vanity fixture that's enclosed for around $40-$50
(HD sells small pieces of glass or plexi in many sizes) '
I might hit a second hand computer store for a couple 12V DC fans to toss in there as well....

i like the cfl buds you guys posting here. some of the best, densest sugary coated nugs ive seen were cfl buds so don't let people discourage you or talk you into buying a 1000 watter, do it your way...after all im pretty sure everyone started growing to have bud their own way

Well i appreciate all of the responses and Sherman your rite. Although i have been doing allot of research before i started there is still so much to learn. I am a hands on type of person so i just gotta get out there and do it. I am just happy that when i run into trouble or have questions and cannot make a decision on what my be best for my plants that i have a forums like this to go to for advice I cannot thank everyone enough for putting there input on this and i think i know what im going to do. Just one more question, I woke up today and one of my leafs looks a little curly on the edges. Any tips?

Hey Brother,

My plant's have done this in the past, it's called canoeing. It's probably do to a heat issue. Make sure you have plenty of air circulation between you're light's and the top's of your plant's. Not a major concern, just watch that the leaf edges don't brown out. Maybe someone with more experience could chime in and give you a more precise answer. Otherwise, you're plant look's awesome! Keep up the good work, you're definitely on the right path.

Peace and good luck,
