Hi, So I am wondering how this whole ppm malarkey works , I recently brought a measuring tool, i am growing in coco 600w hps 20-27 degrees 40% humidity. My water out the tap is coming 7.5 PH and 230 PPM then I watered my plants today with my nutrients and 5.8 PH then I measured the 30% run off PPM and it was 120 what is this telling me? Im maby halfway through flower. What should I be looking to have ? Any help would be great
Thanks:)

So its 120ppm run off? Or 120ppm above or below your starting ppm?

Because its impossible to pour a solution that's ~700ppm fert using a 230ppm base water. And it comes out 120ppm.

If you pour a bunch of water. The run off will be the same or close to the starting ppm. Water too little, and solution won't rinse the extra salt out. Like if you poured 700ppm and it comes out at 1000ppm.

If its 120ppm more then the start. That'll work.

The water from the tap with no nutrients is 230 ppm i then mixed my nutrients and watered. The run off from the bottom saucer i measured and it was 120 so I was wondering

What's the total ppm of the solution? Because there's no way the run off is 120ppm unless no fert was added.

Take the sample as it drips. 1/2 cup. (4ml). Catch the drip from different places from the bottom of the pot if you're using a fabric pot.

Something isn't adding up. Runoff is unreliable but it should be much higher. How often are you feeding/fertigating?

Hey, my best suggestion would be step away from your meter and don't over think things too much. If you are feeding correctly in coco and draining to runoff once or twice a day there is no reason to start looking for problems. If your plants start showing issues than time to investigate but otherwise I would just leave it be and not measure runoff. I am 5 weeks into flower and have not measured my runoff once since they were planted. While it is great that you are interested in knowing this stuff, which is commendable, I also find people get to caught up in things. Let this one go bud until your plants show some sign of not being happy. Good luck.

Great advice. My first run with coco I was chasing runoff and overthinking it way too much like that and actually created more problems than I fixed in the process... lol.

Your sure theres not a little x10 in the corner of your meter?
What does your meter read in? EC or um/cm or tds ?

Looking at your super dark green leaves u need to have more runoff.
I water every day till a fair amount comes out i think it would be a waste to put my nutrients in for 10L then water half out the bottom into the saucer I definitely take enough out the saucer each time maby 10-30% of what goes in, it does have a x10 but if it goes in at 790 surely it wont come out at 380 x 10 is that not really high? Again I will look again tomorrow, should I water with just water alternating days? I have just been feeding coco a+b 4-5ml per litre every feed and I make up 10L a time 5.8 PH for 2 plants and always aim for some run off on each

No never straight water,I think we,d have to assume your meter is funky.Just use less 2ml/l.

Okay so just use half the strength in my 10L than I have been doing, even though my plant is in full bloom ? I was thinking just to feed plain water for my last 10 days

Ok so your first post you said runoff was 120. So we have to assume that was 1200. So now you say it was 380 so 3800. So are your pots going completely dry between ea feed? That would cause the high output reading.
