Need Help Fast. Light Bill!

Hey everyone. I just want to know if a 100$ rise in my bill will be a cause for suspicion? We just moved in and our first bill was around 50$. My roomate is trippin now though, and I keep tellin him we'll be ok because we just moved in and such. So am I right, or should I be worried?

No way, first off, its friggin cold alot of places right now. Second, I am pretty sure that everyones bills jump from the first to the second month. Third, honestly, you would have to have a MAJOR spike, like 500% + before it would even be noticed by the electric company.

Nothing but a 400watt HPS. I just want to reasure him that theres not gonna be a problem. I keep tellin him they don't know what were doin, like if we just moved in our tvs, appliances, ect. Thanks for the speedy replies guys. I didn't think it was anything serious.

There is a huge misconception about power companies and power spikes...they dont care unless you don't pay. Your power bill could be $1000 next month and as long as you pay they are pleased as punch. Power companies don't look through their books and pick out all of their best customers and then report them to the police. It just wouldn't be in their best interest.

Aside from that $100 spike is nothing. Thats equivalent to running a space heater for several hours a day or running both of your flat screen TVs too often. Dont worry and tell your roomate to smoke some bud and relax

Ditch the roomate or the growing idea. Sounds like the two are not going to be compatable.

You can drop your bill easily in minutes. Turn down the temp on your water heater and change every bulb in the house to a CFL.

I did that and became militant about stuff running when not in use. I actually dropped my bill after switching from a 150 watt HPS to a 400 watt HPS.

Even though he can be hard headed somtimes, is still a good friend of mine. He just gets parinoid somtimes. Hes fresh off probation and doesn't want to look back. I showed him everyones advice and hes ok now. Ya know whats funny is that fucker has a space heater running in his room right now. Think I'll have to show him, and give him some shit. No need to turn anything off..... they look at your history of usage. Since you are new...you have no usage history. Your reasoning is sound. You are new and as long as you stay at 150 .... it will seem completely normal.

i run a 400 18 hours a day and computers and flat screen etc ...my bill is never over $80.

The space heater is most likely the reason for the power bill being higher if you think about it - not your 400w light

you have to think... the electric companies are just that... Companies!

they are in business, to make business; and as long as they are getting their money, they are happy... just as Gastanker says.

the only way the energy company will say something to the cops is if you are stealing energy.

and remember... you don't get caught growing... you get caught selling.

if the cops are looking into your electric records (which i believe are public regardless...) then they probably already have other evidence against you most likely...

lol His space heater might as well be industrial sized compared to that one. We've been trying to figure out why it jumped and we've come to the conclusion that its just the heater. We were under the impression that our house was heated by propane, like our water, gas, ect. But we now know its runnin on electricity, so we figure thats it. How many stoners did it take? 2.....

That's really expensive for only one 400 watt light. It costs less than $15 to run for 12 hours a day in my area, so I can't imagine it being any higher than $50 in any area, even if on 24/0. Hmm...you don't happen to live in Switzerland, do ya? (don't answer that. )

Well with all the other shit running in my house. The PS3s are running almost 24/7 along with all the stereo equiptment, flat screens attatched to them. Not to mention we always fall asleep with the tv on. In the U.S btw
