Just harvested my first grow of 5 ok size plants, it's real dry where I'm at
so I didn't trim right away, now 2 days later the leaves are not still all the way dry
but thought I would start trimming, did I completely jack up by not trimming right away?

Leave it hanging with all vegetation intact a few days. Then begin removing the larger fan leaves as they really wilt. If left in a cool dry area with air moving at least a little it will dry in a few days enough to test. When the stems are dry enough to snap then place in jars. Open the jar once a day to let fresh air in. In a week it will be about as good as it gets.

It's not a fuck up, but a lot of people do a trim before hanging because as the leaves wilt they hang down on the bud and get all sticky. Trimming is hard enough (as I just found out this weekend!) so trimming first will save some frustration over sticky leaves. But some people prefer to keep the leaves on to slow the drying process -- they get the slower dry but have to deal with the sticky leaves.

So, you'll have to try it different ways and see what works best for your climate and grow style. I will always trim first and then keep the dry going as slow as possible with environmental control -- cool temperatures and mid-level humidity.

also the more vegetation/fan leaves around your buds the less that air can flow around them. poor airflow in a moist environment = mold.

I trim the biggest fan leaves off before cutting a main branch. After that I'll take the smaller fan leaves clip them and hang the branch up on a rail. Then on to the next branch, this keeps the fan leaves from picking up trichs of the buds, also as previously mentioned, reduces the chances for mold. I prefer to leave the buds on the branch until it snaps in half, this allows for a little extra absorbing of nuts. Once the buds are dry enough to just pluck off I drop them into glass cars and set the lid on but never tightening it.
