Need Help, Want to grow a miniature plant

I am trying to grow a plant that gets no more than 1 ft. tall when its ready to harvest. Is there anyway to do this? If so, would there even be anything worthwhile?

Iv seen a plant, grown under Incandescent bulbs in a closet. It was about 10" tall and cropped an 1/8th of surprisingly chronic hippie weed.

Its entirely possible, flower from seed/clone and use small lighting. If your going for large yield but a short plant, ScrOG it.

You should check out the CFL section, there has been some nice CFL grows, very short plants, surprisingly high yields too.

Awesome thanks, I read on another post that I should wait for them to get to be 6 inches tall before starting 12/12?

My plant just sprouted!! I was wondering what I should do next to make sure it stays small? I have heard two different opinions:
1- start 12/12 now
2- start 12/12 when it is 6"

Does anyone know which is correct?

Its really personal opinions. Your best bet would be to wait until its fully rooted, so I would wait a week or two before switching to 12/12

The KEY at this point is to keep the light as close as possible so you dont stretch her.

Should I be using a cool florescent? I just have a basic grow light and it is pretty far away from it...

I dont have room for a bunch of lighting so any recommendations on what would be really efficient and fit my purpose would be great! I hope to post some pics soon.

The "basic grow light" that your using, What kind of light is it? And how many watts??

Cool light aka more red in colour if what you want for flowering. Daylight is for veg. Use both spectrums for best results imo.

The light is a GE Gro & Sho Bright Stik... I think its only like 35 watts/470 lumens, but I could get another?

When you say red light, which would be the best bulb?

naw man, its one of those blue plant lights right? those are useless for herb. Go out and get some CFLs. The swirly energy efficient type. you want at THE VERY LEAST 100 actual watts per square foot.

And its really the light kelvins and lumens you want to be looking at. Say a 45 w daylight cfl (which is equivalent to 250w) puts out 2300 lumens at 6500k. Those are the types of numbers your looking for for your plants lighting needs. I would suggest two of them. Like smokedatkush said, you also want a warm spectrum bulb as well. That's around 2700k and about the same lumens as the other.

They go for 10-20 bucks each. Home depot, lowes, walmart gardening centers. You should have no trouble finding them. JUST MAKE SURE THEY'RE IN THE RIGHT SPECTRUM!

Brightness doesn't matter, What matters is the light available for the plant to use. A 500w 30,000 lumen Halogen bulb; while its bright as hell, won't do jack for your plant.

Please dont laugh, Im just getting started with all this!

Any ideas on how to improve upon this set-up for a cheap price please let me know! Also, how do I keep my plant small using this? I have a small cardboard box that I keep it in overnight so it can veg a bit... any suggestions?

if I were to mount the bulbs you mentioned up with the other one at the top, would that be sufficient enough light to keep it small?

Get 1 or 2 42w "red" CFL's.

You'll want to keep the lights almost RIGHT on top of the seedling. This will keep it short with compact node spacing to give you a decent yield. The closer you can get the nodes (branching) to grow together the better.

CFL's don't put off too much heat. Best to have a fan but you need to kind of do a "guess and check" with the lights. More of a check than a guess. But place the light as close as possible or prop stuff up under the plants to raise them closer but check to make sure the light is not getting too hot.

If you can, get a fan to push air around, cool and strengthen.
