i'm trying to wire a power strip to a dell psu. I'm following this tutorial >here but my power supply looks different than the one in the tutorial. The cable i'm not supposed to touch, in the tutorial, is not attached to the black component on my psu. Also I do not have have a on/off switch on the back of my psu. Does that matter? is there a way i can hook up a power strip to the psu i have? i attached a pic of my psu.

negative to negative (yellow), positive to positive (blue) and ground to ground (green). Doesn't have to be complicated. Plus, can't see what the wires are connected to.

If you don't have a power switch on the back just take the 3 plugs from your power strip to the 3 prongs on the inside of the psu. Just make sure your ground goes to the pin in the middle that's below the other two.

So from their first pic, hook your black to where the blue is, white to where the white is, and green to where the green one is.

Don't have wires touching eachother or anything else. And remove whatever else those wires go to. I just soldered my light strip wires directly to the prongs after removing everything off the prongs including old wires and solder

Oh and also, I spoke to someone about rigging up a PSU for a stealth PC box grow, they recommend ditching the PSU and just stick to a power strip. Skip the potential fire/shock hazard and headache and just use a power strip and make it appear is it's plugged in like it would be if a PSU was attached. Like who is going to check the back of a computer to see if it's a legit computer??

If you know very little about it I would agree. KISS Keep it Simple Son!

Thanks for all the replies. The ends of the wires are connected to a plastic terminal, like the one the pc fan has, but I was going to cut the wire and strip them. Does it matter what the other end looks like, will it change the way you wire it? The back of the case has a plug for the power cord and a red switch that says 115w on it.

The switch is for the voltages I would imagine. I don't follow you when you say the other end, as in the other end of the wire? It should just be copper, make sure your hands are clean when twisting the wire together, you should do it like in the tutorial with heat shrink tubing and solder, if you cant just be super careful, that's high voltage and high current available through that wire when its plugged in. Regardless of how you connect the blue and brown the most important thing is the ground wire, make sure both greens are connected together and connected to the metal case, securely and I would also run a thrid green ground wire from the screw on the metal cage to any other metal components in your set up.

This for your own safety, if there is no ground or it comes lose and if the brown or blue wire happens to touch any of the metal casing it would electrify the hole setup with 115Volts, and you could be shocked to death if you touch it, so just be careful and the green is most important!

The only one you got to make sure is right is the ground(green). The black can either go on the left or right
