No apology necessary...your standard is what it is.

Just the same...besides you, and other followers....who else would know any other of his tunes but the one ? Ya dig?
I may not be the one to ask that question to. I can't name one Taylor Swift song, and I just read yesterday that she's apparently making a million dollars a day this year. :wall:

The Thrill is Gone and Lucille is the only ones I can think of honestly, but BB King is one of the GREATEST guitar players. He has inspired many musicians. Listening to him play the guitar is true pleasure. He is a legend, no matter how many Billboard hits he's had. Maybe i'm wrong but it's hard to believe that anyone hasn't heard BB King play, at least in the US.

For info only, Lucille was not one of his songs, but the name he gave his guitar after a bar fight in the 1950s. Here's the story:

"King's recording contract was followed by tours across the United States, with performances in major theaters in cities such as Washington, D.C., Chicago, Los Angeles, Detroit, and St. Louis, as well as numerous gigs in small clubs and juke joints of the southern United States. During one show in Twist, Arkansas, a brawl broke out between two men and caused a fire. He evacuated along with the rest of the crowd but went back to retrieve his guitar. He said he later found out that the two men were fighting over a woman named Lucille. He named the guitar Lucille, as a reminder not to fight over women or run into any more burning buildings." - wikipedia

The song 'Lucille' was a top ten song written and originallt recorded by Little Richard.

Performing with his famous guitar, Lucille

Man ! OK.... he had a 'song'...about his guitar. Safe to say it wasn't a ' hit ', but something only a fan would know.

Below, we've rounded up his 10 biggest Billboard hits.

10. "Guess Who/Them Changes" (Peaked at No. 62 on Oct. 14, 1972)

9. "Hummingbird" (Peaked at No. 78 on Aug. 22, 1970)

8. "Paying the Cost to be the Boss" (Peaked at No. 79 on May 25, 1968)

7. "Chains and Things" (Peaked at No. 45 on Dec. 12, 1970)

6. "Ask Me No Questions" (Peaked at No. 40 on April 3, 1971)

5. "Rock Me Baby" (Peaked at No. 64 on June 20, 1964)

4. "Ain't Nobody Home" (Peaked at No. 46 on Jan. 22, 1972)

3. "To Know You Is To Love You" (Peaked at No. 38 on Sept. 22, 1973)

2. "I Like to Live the Love" (Peaked at No. 38 on March 9, 1974)

1. "The Thrill Is Gone" (Peaked at No. 15 on Feb. 21, 1970)

I stand by my original remark:

That cat rode one hit song for 40 years. Guess which one.....

His album with Clapton Riding With the King, hit No. 3. He had 15 Grammy awards, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, inducted into the Blues and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. 35 songs on the top 100, nine albums hit No. 1 on the Blues Album charts, tied for the most albums on the Blues Album chart, 25 albums that landed on the Top R&B Album charts, Live in Cook County Jail hit No.1 for three weeks during 31 weeks on the Top R&B Chart... but yea you're more than welcome to stand by your ignorant remark.

I'm not a fan of John Mayer either but Damn can that guy play. I also saw something with B.B. Kung and the Stoned that was nasty as well. What people don't understand is that most "Blues" musicians aren't in the top 40, but they are sick and pretty much influence everyone that influences everyone. B.B doesn't have to have a bunch of #1 hit singles to be one of the greatest of all time. And I guarantee if you ask anyone that knows anything about guitar or music who the top five of all time are they might have different answers but I bet all are influenced by the blues

Ignorant?

So, you've decided to bypass friendly discussion, and move into :cuss:? Nice !

"Blues Album charts" ? R&B Album charts?

Porter Wagoner charted dozens of top ten hits - "Country" charts.
Chick Corea's "jazz" recordings routinely charted top ten in his 'genre' [ key word - make a note]
Can you name any Jenni Rivera 'hits'? She was voted top artist of 2013 in her 'genre'.
Mandisa and Tasha Cobb had #1 hits in their genre - I'll bet you don't know what they are - am I right?

Porter also got a "Lifetime Achievement award..... Name some of his #1 hits, por favor?

Where do you suppose "Riding w/ the King" would have charted w/o "Eric Clapton" being splashed all over the album cover, and in the vinyl grooves?
[Lemme help you out - likely about where all the ones before and after charted:lol: ]

You wanna proclaim King a legend in his genre w/ a multi-decade career and a bunch of fans, that's fine, and I don't disagree. But in that regard, he's little different than the artists I listed above.

But he had 1 - that's o-n-e - hit record that played somewhere besides the 'R&B' or 'Blues' charts.

But I'm 'ignorant' because your BB KING fan toes were stepped on - that's your problem.

I used to be a huge fan and follower of Faith No More, who had ONE smash hit. Even though they sporadically charted the rest of their recording career, they in fact 'won' awards. But you only know their 'hit', if you know that. And nothing else....unless, like me, you are or were a fan.

You probably see the significance of the comparison...you being so 'intelligent' and all.
If not, no worries. It changes nothing, including the validity of my original comment. Have a sweet day! bongsmilie

No need to carry on, Amos doesn't know what he's talking about, his comment was ignorant plain and simple.
