Yea, dampen vibrations with dynamat, and if you want first staple up a bunch of eggcrate all nice and neat for airspace to deaden the sound.

there could be books about this alone. The best first step is getting your air vent ducting a close to straight as possible. You can build a silencer for each end of it too, or run one end into a carbon filter for deoderizing. Smell and the sound of air movement are the biggest things that are noticed by others.

There is stuff you can get from Walmart called Egg crate sound proof foam.

It looks just like the picture below.

You staple this to the walls around your grow box/area and it'll minimize the sound.

Some people cut it down and place it inside Vents to cut down the noise the air movement makes, but this may restrict airflow dramatically.

If you are using PC fans, for a small grow, check out the following link.

Acousti Products - Anti-Vibration Products: Ultra Soft Fan Mounts

They have "screws" that are really soft rubber, they minimize the vibrations that the fan creates.

They also have a bunch of soundproofing material that you can use, probably be better to use in ducting than the egg crate stuff.

You may also wish to check out "duct mufflers"
They work pretty well.

Here are a DIY one I found:

International Cannagraphic Magazine Forums - DIY fan muffler (30% noise reduction) for $30

Hope this helps you out.

Hanging exhaust fans with a rubber ring dampens vibration...Never conect it to the wall diectly...
Buy some silent oscilating fans...
And use those egg crate foams where the ballasts are for sure...
Make all plastic and mylar tight for less noise...
Use rubber thingys on hydro sytem to dampen vibration...

I found by wrapping the mylar around a large peice of cardboard is the easiest way to keep it tight as well as flat to reflect more light...

reverberations from the grow box's fan's and ballast probably are what make the noises that reach the furthest. i bet if you lay everything on at least 1 inch of styrofoam you'd notice a difference. use maybe a layer of foam and then top it with a square board so you have a level surface to put your tent or fans on.

try some tests see what happens

kalikitsune, mebesideme, arrid, kaliskunk, and lemonkush thanks for the great ideas. i'll definetyly be going to the store to get some of that egg foam stuff. my only question is.... is that stuff still okay to put the mylar on? also the deminsions for the room are 2feet deep, by 8feet long, and 6feet tall. the room will be split into 2 sections. one will be 5x2x6 and the other 3x2x6. pics soon to come. but again thanks for the help, and happy growing =)

as long as ur venting your room with fresh air and exhausting the hot air. it doesn't matter if your room is insulated.

You build a frame, smaller than your room, egg crate soundproof the outer rooms walls of the main room and there you have it..
