now i do have a 600w cooltube set up with a Quantum 600w ballast i could use . also im dealing with a 6 1/2' ceiling so would a cooltube or a t5 be a better option cuz of heat? Or still go with a 1000w with a vortex fan/ AC room

No one ever seems to do ebb and flow for clones, but it works really good.

You might get better replies if you say how many plants you are looking to veg, how long you want to veg them, ect.

Did you know you can use walmart reusable bags in place of smart pots? They are $.50 each, don't fall apart and have a nice handle.

Even with 15 plants, it will save you like $60-70.

Hydro is really the way to go - way cheaper and easier in the long run. The trick is not to half-ass everything. Run a water line if you have to, run a drain line if you have to - look for anything you can do once that will save time later on.

ive used both mh and t5, and i have to say t5 is about the best way to veg.

just dont skimp, and go with HO, or VHO if you can afford.

I'd use a 600 HID and several cheapo double 40 watt T12's from Walmart. The good thing about that ballast is that you can easily relocae it outside the room and thereby remove it as a heat source - not so with flourescents.

T5's cost alot and generate alot of heat.

Ever watt of power use equals about 3 BTU's of heating. That's great if you can use a/c to cool the room - be aware that it takes about 3 watts of a/c to cool away each watt of heat generted by your lighting. That means for every kilowatt hour you run your lights, you are going to pay for almost 4 kW/hrs of electricity. Are you cool with $10/day electric bills?? If not, are you going to vent the heat (and smell) outdoors?? Can you do that on the down low?

I would avoid a 1000 watt light - I do not like the light dispersal pattern of single light fixture grow rooms. Better to balance out the illuminance around the room with a 600 watt HID and a few flouros.

You should really want to consider using a CO2 generator - you can double growth with it (I use swimming pool acid and marble chips in a five gallon bucket; costs <30 cents per day).

Definitely get yourself a good air scrubber - the distinct smell of a pot growing operation causes more busts than any other mistake except for snitches.

3.5 gal. office trashs sell for less that $4 each at Staples. They have an excellent rectangular shape that makes them perfect for set up under that 600 watt HID - you can set up 12 under that lamp, all with better than 5000 candela illuminaance. Use a power drill and a half-inch wood bit to cut 8 drain holes in the bottom of each. Get 1 gallon water jugs from Fresh and Easy (5.5 inches square) and cut off the tops - they make perfect one gallon grow pots (plus you get to the distilled water). Run a line of 7 one gallon pots down each side of the 12 3-gal pots and hang a single double 40w ftube flouro above - once again, you will have right about 5000 candela for each 1 galllon pot. After you cull the males, just use the 3 gallon pots and take down the flouros - you should be able to get 7-9 sq. ft. of dense canopy for flowering.

Hydro? IMHO: hydro is too expensive, too easy for something to go wrong and ruin the whole crop, and (worst of all) too hard to speedily break down and hide if necessary (like if a workman needs to repair something or else should the Sheriff ever start pounding on the front door).
