Need some confirmation please

hey guys, this should be straight forward, Im just looking for a little confirmation as to whether my grow plan is sufficient. I'm really tired of researching as some things are out-dated everybody has different opinions etc. so i just want to give you the run down on what i'm doing and if you could be so kind offer advice. much appreciated. ooookk

Tent - 0.8mx0.45mx0.8m
Fan - 2 x 150mm inlet/outlet fan
Light - 1 x 240w LED 80% red, 2 x 130w CFL (6400k + 2700k)
Medium - Soil (peat moss 60%, castings 10%, pearlite 30%, etc)
Seeds - Unknown/bagseed

So, my experience is minimal, my last grow (first grow) was a failure, the seeds grew about 2-3 inches tall, then stopped growing and leaves started discoloring after about 4-5 weeks so i just shut it down to save power and re-think my plan. my setup was different, only had the 240w led on a 18/6 schedule, and used a soil called Yates premium potting mix.

I'm thinking of going 24hr lighting for veg, then when I goto 12/12 swapping the veg CFL for the flower CFL. All the while having the LED in conjunction.

will I be more successful this time? any tips?
Do i need a ballast for CFL is tent is so small with reflective lining?
Is boiled and rested water what I should use?
please don't suggest I change my lights to 400w HPS.

0.8m is short, and 0.8m wide, less than 0.5m deep.. you can do a few plants in there but it is short. you cannot have a tall medium and potter or else you will be trying to bloom at 6"inches tall.. w/e in meters. lol 15cm?

I'm aussie gotta convert everything haha, ok so from the top of the soil to the roof i have about 27 inches? As i'm probably not going to use a reflector the globe is only like 3-4 inches deep? minus canopy distance of say 1-2 inches max. so...20-24 inches of growth room.

1-2 inches is 2.5-5cm.. I would say the 240w LED will blow a hole in the center of your cab @ 5cm..


3 @ 90w would be good. ... call it 15cm+ from those 90w LED.. 240w = more like 25cm distance.

maybe 30-45cm vertical..

Sorry, what do you mean by cab?

H 0.8m x D 0.5m x W 0.8m = your cabinet. 240w LED @ 5cm will blow a hole in your plants/cab lol..

I must agree, a too small tent for what your trying to archive, first thing that spring to mind when I saw your post (second thing is that you run both a intake and outtake ventilation, not necessary, use em both as outtake and just keep enough passive intake hole`s open)

the tent would be kinda perfect with a few CFLs to veg out a few plant`s for a bigger tent, and flowering under them LEDs, that need to be keeper at 30-50 cm from the canopy depending on what type/quality of LEDs you have


And don't cut corners when it come to the grow medium, after all its the plants home for 2-5 months and can really give you a hard time if too compact of out of range in PH

MJ like a light and airy medium with a PH around 6-7, a too compact medium with out any perlite or similar to provide good drainages will lock out oxygen and give your plants (roots) a hard time breathing, a PH out of track will lock out nutrients, micros and trace elements and end up ruin your grow (ETC. stunned the growth of small seedlings and kill em in the end)

Bag seed`s can be perfectly fine, but I would for sure advice a new grower to get quality genetics as its ensure a good end product, sucks to use 3-4 months on bad quality and you never know if the reason why you got the Bag seed is Bc. of bad genetics/hermi

use the $ on a tent twice the size and use the small one with a few CFLS to cut half the time of your grow, by getting new Veg plants ready for the bigger tent/LEDs
use the two fan`s you have as outtake fans on each tent
get quality soil/perlite
get quality genetics/seed`s

Thanks for the advice. Soil im definitely putting more thought into this time. I still feel I can can a good grow with my tent. People use pc cases much smaller. Im mounting the led panel longways on one side and cfl on top.
