need some Help cooling my 1200w closet

Ok so this summer is going to suck. Like sweltering buy new acs and pray you don't have a heat stroke at work type of suck. I could go on but I digress.

The particulars: temps 88 to 90 outside temp 96 to 99 6.5x3.75x7.5 1200w hps 1 magnetic 1 dimmable. 10" fan filter reduced to 6". Another 6" and filter cooling the tubes. Passive intakes.

The setup worked great for my winter/spring grow. I'm still smoking on it lol. But it's not even in the hot months for my area and I need to be ready to flower in a little over a month. However im unwilling to flower when right now at the coolest hours im still in the mid 80s. I have a cough $#!&&? Portable a.c. I could use any suggestions

air conditioner is your only hope, im guessing your running your op at night time. currently having the same issues. not sure what it is in 'F but 'C im hitting 29's.... the ladies seem to be okay with it as it gets cooler as the night gos on. wind chill factor??? as your in veg you could mist your plants every couple of hours but guessing you want to flower and i think this problem will persist as the summer gos on.

the other choice.... alternate your lights. every 6 hours or 3 hours etc... 1 on 1 off. thats what im currently doing to deal with my heat problems. i have a cool tube and ballasts are in the loft. venting into the loft aswell.

Or look into co2. You can run at temps in the low 30s when applying co2. Otherwise i would of suggested getting ballests etc out. But your on to that already.

If the temp drops when you open the door to the grow, then you need to change passive intake to powered intake is first idea off the top of my head.

..or maybe increase your exhaust cfm suckin the air out which will pull at the passive intakes harder, but powered intake is usually always better. Or increase the size of your passive intake.

Yea I'm running at night. I work a really odd swing type of schedule so I usually run at night/early morning that way I get time with my ladies. 29C would be aprox 85 or 84f. Its not horrible but density and potentcy and terps start taking hits around that temp. I also run my tubes' into the loft however here I think the word my be attic. I alternated my lights my last indoor summer run. Did 1.5 on 1 off kept temps firmly at 82.

I managed to get them down to 79 or 26c for my good people on the metric. O don't know how long itll last it's been a lot cooler with the storm in the gulf.

C02 is in the future my friend. About 3 more grows dialing in my seasons then i will see where that takes me.

Thank you Johnei I will try this out I don't effect much drop however maybe a degree or 2 we will see. I'll post up my results tomorrow.


If I'm sitting at 79 now how much cooler do I need to be? Someone refresh my memory double shifts in the swing got me down and out and as soon as I hit this dab. I'm done for the night lol. Thank you every one for your replies and happy growing

I have window units and a portable. The main unit outside kicked the bucket 5 or 6 years ago. I'll get a diagram up as soon as possible. Was thinking, I may could use the portable just make sure to filter it like I would exhaust. I believe it has a 6" exhaust.

Get Johnei i ran that test.

Ventilation test
start 11:35 pm
Temp inside room 79
End 1:45am
Temp inside room 82
I guess that means I need more cfms out and either more passive or active intake correct?

Reason why I say look to changing passive intake to be actually powered the first thing to do of maybe a few things you'll have to do is because most can't just change out their exhaust for a bigger one or turn theirs up higher than the high ya know.

The first thing I would actually do is increase the size of the passive intake; small size at first and keep testing results so not to make it too big before actually putting a blower n there.

And last thought, I flower all the time in up to about 84'F with same type of setup with all kinds of different strains, exhaust up high sucking air out 24/7 and passive intakes and always pulled good yield numbers with no issues. Monster rock hard nugs. Airflow is key and fans moving the leaves without wind burning them. When the leaves are moving around not stationary, light doesn't sit beaming in one spot and ambient air temp isn't the killer, with all the airflow and wind and movement as long as a lot of new air is coming in. Right now I'm vegging at 79-81 and it's fine. So I don't think yours numbers you just mentioned are that bad. The 86-90+ is not good.(without co2)
