I have 2 different plants started that I have under a 125 watt compact flourescent grow bulb that I just started approx 1 week ago on a 18/6 schedule and is now approx 3 1/2 inches tall. I am pretty new to this and was given some advise to only water the new plants every 3-4 days the plants were alive and well this morning when I turned the lighting on now after 5 hrs of light today I came home and the leaves on the plants are starting to shrivel up is it because of the light type or being to close or could it be something else like light schedule, watering schedule, as soon as I noticed I watered them and pulled the light farther away from the plants and is now approx 2 ft away......any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

watering based on number of days is fairly useless. You need to water when needed based on the dryness of the soil. What are these plants in? If you can get the feel of what the pots feel like empty versus full of water you'll have a better idea of when they need more. A pic might help btw, I doubt it's light burn from a cfl.

still could have been a heat issue. what if he is using a smal area and closed off with very little ventilation, with that light it could produce some heat there.

I planted both in regular potting soil and had both plants in a carboard box lined with alum foil, that I have now removed a side off of for ventilation, the soil was fairly dry when I noticed the shriveling so I watered both plants to hopefully bring them out of it. Also the light that I am using has 10,500 lumens and a color temp of 6,400 kelvin.

Well at this point the taller plant of the 2 has fallen limp and looks to be dying, the other I cannot see any visible signs of shrinkage or burning so I have made sure that there is plenty of ventilation in the room and has been watered I have also lowered the light back to its original height of approx 12 inches away from the plant.
