hello all,

im new the the forums but this is where i always came to get info for my one previous grow that was going well till it got crushed by a falling light, so this is take two.

this grow isnt going nearly as well as the last one. i started by adding a full Tsp of nutes within the first two weeks and noticed these burn spots. like a moron, i added more nutes and epsom salts thinking that it was nute deff. after a little bit of research i discovered that it was prolly nute burn so i put them back in pure distilled water to try to flush out some of the excess nutes i used.

So my question is this: My babies are only a little over two weeks old and they seem to be healthy other than the rust spots on the oldest one and the small amt of yellowing on the bottom fan leaves. Im running dangerously low on grow nutes, so i was wondering if i could go straight into flower mode without anymore grow nutes? like could i just leave them in distilled water until 3 weeks old, and add half dose of grow nutes and half dose of flower nutes when i change my res to get them ready for flower stage without them dying?

IMPORTANT INFO:

Bubbleponic grow
planted in rockwool cubes with hydroton medium
grow light-> 6500k flourecent tube lights at 3200 lumens per bulb.
general hydroponics nutes - maxi gro/maxi bloom
24/0 light schedule

love the name swampy :D and my digi ph meter is coming, but i do have tester strips (which i hate due to inaccuracy) before i put them back in plain water, the ph was just under 6. and poly, thanks for the advice!

now i have a half tsp of grow nutes left, so should i use that now and then switch to full str bloom nutes next res change? or should i just use bloom nutes from here on out?

ph is right then but you really need to know the ec, if you guessing that i would put them on just water for around 3-4 days and then add nutes very gradually ,,, you really need a ec meter more than a ph meter dude

research has told me what an ec meter is, but what exactly does it do and why do i need to go buy one after just buying an expensive ph meter?

and now that i have two different approaches to nutes, if someone could please help bust this, itd be appreciated bc i dont wanna hurt my babies by nuting them too early or late.

ec tells you how strong the nutes are in the water, if youve got nute burn the ec meter would have told you this before the damage was done. looking at those babies of yours i would have started with a ec of 0.3 so you add nutes until you achieve this and if ec goes down you up it by .1 etc but if ec goes up on its own that means your overfeeding and you need to lower the ec before you get the burn.

yo be honest with careful math and knowledge and the ec meter is not needed but it does make things easier. i would buy one in the future but you plant to gradually add nutes will work out fine

that makes a lot of sense. my thing is that until i can get one, i cant just deprive them of nutes. thats why i need my nute question answered from above.

i know there isnt as much N in flowering nutes, so this is why im thinking i should put the half dose of grow nutes just so it isnt deprived of the N it needs to get to the veg stage?

i really can't answer that question as i don't know how strong half a spoon of nutes is going to be, i can tell you what i would do myself tho, i would give them tapwater as it usually has a ec of 0.2 and above depending on were you live, if after a couple of days the leaves start turning a paler shade of green then add some ferts and after a couple of days look again

Assuming i understand this correctly (which i prolly dont) isnt the whole point of the ph so that the root system can absorb the nutes it needs? If so, then wouldnt the tap water be pointless due to the fact that any minerals that may be in the water cannot be absorbed anyways bc the ph of water from my tap is exactly 7.

your N ranges from 5.5 to 8.0 in hydro but you can ph the tapwater, sorry i didnt make that clear i would ph it to 5.6-5.8, sorry for the confusion me fellow swampy
