Well like I said guys I need some help light proofing the reservoir and the container I am growing in. They are both clear and I DO NOT want to use the 6 rolls of duct tape. Can I use any form of paint or maybe you guys can provide better suggestions.

They make a plastic paint
but it still flaked off of my clear tubs.

I like to use contact cement and space blankets.

I spray the outside with the contact cement
and then wrap it with the mylar space blanket.

A couple of layers will do.

I get the space blankets on ebay
for about $2.50 each when I buy 4.

I also use cardboard to fit around the stems,
and shade the top of the tub.

Painting plastic takes a little bit prep before painting it.
You need fine steel wool or a green scrubby will work. Scuff it up really well, make sure you scuff the whole area that your painting.
Wash it afterwards with soap and water, dry it thoroughly.
Next use a fast drying primer, Your first coat should should be a light coat....Don't try to cover it with the primer. You'll want to put 2-3 coats of primer on it.
Once you have 2-3 coats of primer on it, let it cure for about 30 min. before painting.
Once it's cured use the fine steel wool to scuff it up again, do it very lightly...you don't want to scrub the primer off.
Next.... Paint. When your spraying on the paint, your first coat should be a light coat, your second coat should be slightly heavier than the first. Remember to spray evenly and not too much in one area.
Let it cure for about 4-6 hours.
Lastly, this optional... but I always spray a couple coats of clear coat on it to protect the paint.

I'm always doing projects around the house, so I always have a pretty good stock on primer and paint. If you have to go out and buy this stuff in order to paint a plastic bucket, it might be more practical to try and look for a bucket that's already dyed.

You might try wiping the container down with liquid sandpaper. IMethelene chloride and acetone will soften some plastics to where you`ll get adhesion with the paint coat.

I use I thing called "Bail Tape" Farmers use it for taping up Silage Bails.

It s a think Black Tape, Water Proof and Light Proof and very sticky. It costs around €2.50 a Roll and will cover a couple of square meters (I get the 4" wide stuff).

This has worked great for me So I'm recommeding it to you.
Hardware stores or Famer Shops.
