Need ventilation advice for new grow room.

Hi all I am pretty new to this and have recently baught a house, with a room in the basement we are dedicating to growing.

So I have pretty much have it set up except for ventilation.

The room is 21.5 feet long 10 feet wide and 8 feet tall.

I know I need intake and outflow fans but have no idea which size and cfm I would need to push air through this room.

Also any suggestions for carbon filters?

Ok for starters, why are we ventilating? For heat? For humidity? or just for fresh air / co2? or all of the above?

Where is your intake air coming from?

Where will the air be exhausted?

Phat and Phresh make the best carbon filters IMO.

Venting is basically just so the air is not stagnant. not using an air cooled hood and only 1 1000 watt hid lamp. Going to be growing during winter so im thinking I will actually need to heat the basement to maintain optimum temps.


I am thinking the intake will come from the rest of the basement, which is connected to the rest of he house through an open stairwell.

Was thinking of venting either to the upstairs or outside.

With that setup it doesn't sound like you will need a lot of CFM. If you need the heat I would just vent to and from the basement. There will be plenty of CO2 down there for your plants.

If you want a really quiet fan the AC Infinity cloudline fans get good reviews. Pop a 6 incher in the tent and let it vent into the basement.

There is no tent. I need to vent the entire room. Do I need an intake and outflow fan or just a passive vent for intake if the outflow fan is strong enough?

What kind of humidity are you dealing with to start? If you vent it back into the house, you might not need a dehumidifier. I think the basement will build up moisture if only using basement air. I have my exhaust fans hooked to a temp/humidity controller. If you are only using one 1000w bulb, I would hang the bulb (maybe put on a 4' light mover) and do a vertical grow.

The humidity sits between 40 and 60 most of the time. It might get drier during winter.

The basement is connected to the main floor from an open stairwell.

I am planning on doing 4 plants mainlined to 8 colas each to fill the 5x5 footprint of the light with an even canopy.

You won't need to really worry about venting that large of a room with one light.
