Negative pressure problems inside home?

I've got a 10" can fan max pulling air out of my tent in the basement up through my chimney... my hot water heater also vents through my chimney, i am afraid of the flue gases getting pushed back into the basement from the water heater, has anyone had problems with something like that? im sure my house has a little negative pressure when i have all the windows closed with the huge fan pushing air out on full blast.

I tried to use my dryer vent as the exit for my hood exhaust. I even put a back flow damper inline of the dryer ducting. it wouldn't work. the dryer air was not able to "merge" in the vent tube when my cool tube fan was on. I ended up cutting another hole and ran a separate ducting for my exhaust.

get on the roof and check with a smoke stick to see if the smoke is getting sucked down the flue and at the water heater with the smoke stick. Or crack a window in the basement.

I think it would be worth it to just run the exhaust in separate ducting, i would be nervous of it fucking up.

i thought all my basement windows were all glass block but i looked at them all again and 2 of them had the little windows... lol problem solved

Sounds like the trouble is that you are pulling more air out of your basement than can be replaced

- Cut in a intake to equlize pressure

The problem that I could foresee would be the back pressure in the furnace flue. You do have a carbon monoxide detector don't you????

The furnace uses heat rise to exhaust it and ANY amount of back pressure would cause serious problems with the flow of hot gasses. I would vent out of one of the windows making it look like a dryer vent.
