nematodes and gnats

hey guys I'm noticing what I'm thinking are fungus gnats my plants look healthy I did over water and i've been letting the soil dry out and will probably let it dry a few more days , I know not over watering anymore will end them but I want to go ahead and kill them off so I was looking at benificial nematodes and I'm just not sure how much I would need , I'm grow three plants in 6.5 gallon containers I also want to add a top layer of sand thanks for any help

Just put sticky paper on sticks around ur planters bro no need to waste good money lol

I had the same problem in my hydro system. The situation escalated and the sticky paper just wasn't enough so i bought nematodes. The product i used was delivered as a gel in a small sealed plastic bag. The gel should be mixed with 1000 ml water and should be enough for about 20 pots or an area of 2 sqm.

I highly recommend nematodes if the situation gets really bad like when you over water. The nematodes kills the larvae only so it would take about 10-14 days before you see the result. Good luck! :)

thanks for the info they haven't gotten bad yet just a couple flying around the pantyhose on the end of my cooltube has caught alot lol but yeah I want to go ahead and kill the larvae too do you have a link to what you used ?

goto to a local gardening center to get them.
$30 at home depot last year I think.

nematodes are the only guaranteed fix, sticky paper just grabs flyers but gnats larvae are eating your roots in your medium.

I thought the fungus gnats didn't eat your roots they just bred in the soil ?

I bought them locally but the the latin name of the nematode was "Steinernema feltiae". The brand is Bionema ( http://bionema.com).

BASF is the supplier of some of Bionemas products in Europe. You could find reseller in your country on their site (http://betterplants.basf.us/products/nemasys-bio-insecticide.html)

Nematodes work great. They will also kill any other pests that wander into your soil too. Just make sure to buy them from a reliable source. They need to kept cool until use so seller needs to ship 1 day delivery with ice packs if you purchase online

ok good to know I planned on using amazon can anyone recommend a good seller from there

Just use a seller who offers express or expedited shipping so nematodes don't die in the mail. Put them in the refrigerator upon arrival until use. Don't use chlorinated water because it will kill the nematodes. In fact don't use chlorinated for at least a week so nematode population thrives.

they must be kept refrigerated so a long shipping stint is not preferred as they will die.

last type I used was "Nemasys" as MikeGanja mentioned they are "Steinernema feltiae".

the dose I used was 50 million, that'll for sure kill off any colony and any other bug
