Net Neutrality... No, really it will be faster and cheaper... Says the government.

FCC Chairman Proposes Utility-Like Regulation for Broadband
Federal Communications Commission Chairman Tom Wheeler unveiled a proposal that would subject mobile and fixed broadband providers to utility-like regulations on how they treat traffic over their networks.

The proposed rules would change broadband Internet access from a lightly regulated information service to a more strictly overseen telecommunications service. The FCC would use that new authority to ban broadband providers from blocking, slowing down or speeding up specific websites in exchange for payment. The proposal is aimed at satisfying proponents of net neutrality.

What they dont tell you is that all the monitoring and reporting companies are now going to have to do to prove they are being *fair* will slow down the internet. So, to make sure it is fair for everyone the government is going to slow it down for everyone. In addition, shortly after or at the time the regulations are in place there will be a new bureacracy, a new tax, new expense, new compliance regulations, etc...

This is a huge pile of steaming bullshit. Internet providers should be able to do what they want with their infrastructure. There is no monopoly on the internet and as such the government should leave it the hell alone. Otherwise we are going to have Obamanet.... Free to those who want to get on and complain that their welfare check isnt big enough.

something that really bothers me is "user discouragement" they do right around time of invoice..it's like clockwork and i did tell them i was gonna report to the FCC..the bullshit of faster DL and having to "buy-up" for it..does it really cost anything more to produce?

This issue has nothing to do with actual speeds of consumer internet, you get what you pay for. The issue at hand is being able to charge arbitrary prices for different types of data, server side. Consumers wouldn't see any effects until the creeping costs of consumer products and services increases.

As it is now:
I can start a business online and have a web presence, let's say I sell widgets. My website is as fast to load as anyone else's, as long as I have quality servers I have leased with a nice specs. The limitation is what I can lease as a server, which only allows increased load for the most part.

As large ISPs would prefer it if the FCC was against neutrality:
I open up my company and lease some servers, then I have to pay additional fees because I am a business. If I am a business that uses the transmission of data my fees will be exponentially higher. I am not talking bandwidth, data type.

Bandwidth isn't the issue, data transfer caps aren't the issue. The issue is arbitrary pricing that holds everyone but ISPs hostage. To transmit one megabyte of data NO MATTER THE TYPE takes exactly the same amount of electricity, EXACT SAME. Why allow different charges?

Edit: clarity

It`s not fair that someone with more money get`s faster internet services, while the less fortunate get slower speeds...... Call for net neutrality......

It`s not fair that someone with more money get`s a faster and better car than those less fortunate who have to settle for slower gas eaters that do exactly the same thing, get me from point A to point B..... Call for transportation neutrality......

When does the fleecing of the successful stop ? When we have Employment neutrality and everyone get`s paid the same........Talent, experience, quality and all.

Cry America, because you can`t be better than me, The Government says so........

you clearly don't understand the issue, but that won't stop you from abusing ellipses and having a meltdown.

We are a family friendly ISP so we block sites like RIU. You want to connect to a VPN? A business class connection is $250 a month. No, you can't access gmail but business class service comes with 100 FREE emails a month.

That's not true ISPs have recently starting charging service fees to youtube and netflix. IE you pay or we're going throttle your services.
There has always been a fee for higher bandwidth. Ho-hum. The netflix "throttling" was induced by their own equipment provider, as they have publicly stated. There has been no "throttling" of youtube, as literally 330 million Americans can attest. I don't see a problem. "Net Neutrality" requires everyone to pay the same price, regardless of usage, requires associated record keeping to ensure compliance, and tax money to enforce it. This is nothing more than a feeble excuse for government usurping more power.

As I understand it, this whole net neutrality thing is just the government trying to implement the exact same solution as they are fighting against.

Why is USPS allowed to have faster methods of mailing things? Express mail is much faster than bulk, also costs more! Unfair!! This is an outrage that needs the government to swoop in like spider-man and throw regulation netting around this horrible practice of letting people pay more to get more!

Which is to say you don't..

I understand what the implications will be. Just a decade ago people were using MoDems at 64K, now the average internet connection speed of 33Mb/sec. Net Neutrality will only stifle the need for speed. Don't worry, in 10 more years the average internet speed will be 10Gb/sec. So you can download all the netflix you want, all the porn you need in just a few seconds, unless government throttles us all. Being throttled by unelected government goons that can't think for themselves will only make ever faster methods of communication speed unprofitable, then we will all just have to bitch when our movie on netflix goes into download mode and wonder why no one has made speeds faster for a decade.

People who need 322 pages of lawyer speak to regulate the internet (Which is what this is) so that everyone has the same speed are the same people who need their hand held to see the implications.

NEt Neutrality is just government control, You can bet it includes censure powers, Unelected government goons with censure powers.

Did you know I can pay more to have Fed Ex take a package from here to Japan in a single day? Why do you hate that so much?
Why do you think downloading porn is more exceptional than a doctor trying to perform remote arthroscopic so someone doesn't die? Why do you want them on equal footing?

Did Ted Cruz tell you that? "Obamacare for the internet"...

Do a little bit of reading about it, man. Net Neutrality is about keeping the internet how it currently is and not allowing top corporations to establish "fast lanes" effectively limiting smaller businesses from customers

Why do you want to keep the internet "As it is" instead of faster and better?
