Never seen anything like this!!! Cupping leaves?

I am new at this by the way. I know almost nothing about what I am doing.
I was given these girls as payment for some work, and believe it or not they looked worse when I received them. Without researching I put them in the pots with some Miracle Grow Organic. I noticed it was light on the nutrients (being organic) so I added the recommended amount of plant spikes from MG as well. I was told they are about 8 weeks old. They are outside plants and I put them in the sun continuoulsly all throughout the day. It is southern Cali so they get a decent amount. I water every other day or as soon as I notice the top couple of inches is dry.

After less than a week the leaves started cupping or closing. I have no idea what is going on. They also seem to be getting yellower by the day. I am afraid that whatever action I do next will only exacerbate the situation. Looking for opinions and advice please. The Pics are small and I apologize!

sounds like a MG nute probs to me, lol

most people hate em and have no end of problems using em, IMO try something else

take the spikes out and replace your dirt with Ocean Forest from Fox Farm, or if that is no option get regular Miracle grow not the organic shit, it attracts fungus gnats with the decomposing wood they put into the soil. New soil and throw the spikes out and water for a good day to rinse the roots.

Thanks for the quick responses guys! So a nutrient problem causes the cupping? Is that is what it is even called? I asked a buddy and he said I was over watering. He did not look at them though.

dont look like overwatering to me, as soon as I see MG nutes I get scared, lol

Your buddy is right...overwatering can cause leaf curl like you see here.

I've never seen the MG stuff up close...is there even any perlite in it?? (little white rocks in the soil?)

so the nutes in MG are time released nutes, meaning over time they get released

so the more you feed them, the more nutes get released into your plants.

you might not be over watering because if its dry and they begin to wilt, obviously they need water.
thats why a lot of growers steer away from MG.

if you plan to keep them in the MG soil just water less often and you should be ok.

and if you are adding any extra nutes, i would go like half strength for a while.

Not the organic stuff...just lots of sticks and even a few rocks. No perlite though.

I found a store nearby that carries Ocean Forest by FoxFarm. First order of business in the morning.
I noticed my PH was over 7 as well. That probably isn't good.

Any other recommendations as far as what to use? Any nutes or does the Ocean forest soil have all that I need?

FFOF soil will feed your plant for about a month befor you need to start giving her nutes, i would go back to the store and see if they have the fox farm trio nute pack..it constrated liquid nute...

could be heat stress, mine looked similar when I put them under a 600w HPS with little ventilation.
