Never wipe bulb while on! (I learned the hard way)

It didn't explode thank god, but it did burn a hole through what I was using to wipe it down. Now I have to get that burnt fabric off the bulb. I clearly underestimated the heat a 400w bulb has, and at least it did not break.

haha ya..u know that piece of plastic that coats the reflector hood and keeps it shiny when its new...

some genius thinks he can take the plastic off the hood with the light on

10 minutes later the light is off and im scraping melted plastic off it with a razor blade.

now that bulb gets a good 10 minutes to sit and cool before being fucked with.

I think I might beable to get the worst of it off with my finger nail, just got to be very careful to not break the glass.

Okay, that's not going to work. This may sound crazy, but I think the only way to get this shit off is to melt it off somehow.

fuck yeah they get hot. once i had a poorly hooked up exhaust duct to my hood with a 400w mh. totally stupid on my part for using no clamps and only duct tape. overnight the ducting fell off. when i went to check the next afternoon, my bulb actually had a big bubble melting outward on the top of it. its been months but to this day, the bulb still works. im lucky the bulb didnt melt thru and cause a fire or somehting like that.

holy shit, my idea is so crazy it's working. I'm using my lighter to melt that shit then rub it off.

Okay, I saved my bulb, it has some slight scratches on it from cleaning the rest of the gook off with a steel scrubby. But it's better than losing a 50$ mh bulb.

make sure to wipe it down with alcohol(once cool)the oils from your hands/skin will kill a bulb, honestly I would get another bulb as a standby incase that one goes...

I have an HPS, and worst case I can just use the HPS.
