i got my first set up off ebay i spent about the same as you but i use the clay pebbels with rockwool or stonewool i got about 30lbs of that hydroton i dont really care for it cuz it will eventuly get to wet

cool , well the rock wool dont last correct you eventually have to put stone in there anyway right?

And i was looking at hps bulbs do you have to have a ballast or can you just buy a treble light and screw it in there

you need a ballast or your hps will not work your ballast works sort of like a converter cuz the hps bulb needs more power for it to light up it would be much simpler if you just bought a ballast that was prewired you now one of those enclosesers that has an all in one reflector and all! there is a shit load of them on ebay

I'm deffinatly too poor for a ballast right now which sucks im in preety open area i guess sun will have to do for the time being till i save up some money.

hell man get sum cfl`s they will do better for veg. growth anyway plants in veg. stage thrive in the 6500k spectrum you can go on ebay and get a 250 watt cfl for about $40 -$50 if you caint afford that buy the cheap twist cfl`s at wal mart or lowes! for a few bucks

i only use hps to flower! but i use 2 of the 250 watt cfl`s for veg there fckin huge and have a mogul base

excuse me for my newbish knowledge i have researched alot and lighting is the one im currently researching i have a closet thats about 3ft by 3ft it has one bulb socket in it. Does cfls screw into an outlet?

thats the right idea but you can only use one one bulb at a time one for feg and one for flower the 2700k is for flower and the 6500k is for veg. but you will need more then one of those i think they are only 20 watts a peice thats why i get those bigger ones! hey how come i could go to your link but the link i posted for you is waiting for approvel?
