I've been using DWC and soil for growing off and on for a while now. It took me months to nail down my environment for hydro. It's nice that the growth is a little faster, but soil is much less maintenance.
My advice: don't even think about getting into hydro unless you're 100% sure you have the correct environmental conditions to do so.
You can do a dry run first: setup your lights and ventilation like you plan on doing, leave a bucket of water under the lights and record all of your conditions (ambient temp., water temp., relative humidity, etc.) over the course of a few days.
Def. do your research before you jump into this. There's a great section on DIY on this site. You should spend a lot of time there and also, of course, the FAQs.
