new but keen

hi all. as my name suggests i am fed up of buying low quality under weight eighths And worse having to smile at the dude who is robbing you. I have decided to delve into the cultivation world. as i am new to this i thought i would begin with a stealth pc grow as i have family issues. hopefully if i can manage to master this i can move on to bigger and better things.
ok so heres my plan....
1 pc case.
dimensions: Height 15" Length 15" Width 6.5"
3 cpu fans.
fan specs: intake 0.09a 80mmx80mm
akasa mb heatsink fan
exhaust1 0.14a 80mmx80mm
cpu fan
exhaust2 0.15a 80mmx80mm
cpu fan

Fans will be run by a 240v ac to 12v dc adaptor from maplin

Pc case lined with diamond reflect material (from hydro shop looks like something nasa developed lol) £4 per square meter

Heres where im stuck. Cant decide which light is going to be best for me.

1.I dont want to run up a huge electric bill or jepordise the stealthness with a pc that burns your hand to touch

2.ive read lots of conflicting opinions about what amount of lght is required but as im growing in a pc case i need to be aware of it getting too hot in there for the plants. My local hydro shop only sells 125w as the smallest cfl is this going to be too much?

i was planning to use lower wattage bulbs say 1 x 55w/6400k and 1 55w 3000k would this be enough/too much?

i nalso eed to be able to buy in cash as i dont want any statements on my joint account to read GROWBULBS FROM CANNIBIS UK etc...

Anyone know where i could purchase bulbs like this in the northwest of england on a cash basis?

Any help or guidance would be great.

as you can see i have the 20w cfl's none of my local shops stock the 30w ones so i got 4 of these babys. i ripped off asda tho the self service scanner thing fucked up so i got 4 for the price of 2 lol.

with these bulbs is it gonna be safe to just bang them in the little crappy holders i got for a quid or do i need some sort of ballast?

and does anyone know how id go about wiring these light fittings so i could just have a standard 3 pin plug for uk in the wall?

i also read somewhere id need a contact breaker? could anyone give me help and guidance?

any comment suggestions much needed

I can appreciate that you need answers and I wish I could give them. I guess you just need to keep bumping this thread until another PC grower chimes in. That sure doesn't look like much room and I think you made a good choice going with the smaller lights as heat will be your enemy. Good luck with your grow.

i'm a new pc grower myself, though i may be taking a step to a different micro setup
i see you mention 80w of cfl bulbs in the case, that is the maximum you want, heat will be an issue
i'm using a case pretty similar to yours, using 1 27w bulb for the moment, grow is in my sig if interested
been slogging through some other troubles, soild and nutes i think

saw your request fedup, i'll try to help but not sure on uk differences
buy a small extension cord/socket setup, they're sold for wiring up a table lamp
process is pretty simple, wire is usually pre-stripped which saves that trouble
the big thing is getting the right wire to the right connection, directions are on the socket wiring instructions, should come with the kit
that's about it, it's the easiest light to start with

Buy a couple of flouresent tubes and fixings get these on a chain and have them hanging from the top.Not sure on how many you will fit in the space though but i would stick to cool daylight spec for this stage.The next stage i would get some cfl's the one's that are equal to 150 watts screw these to the sides of the cabinet 1 in each corner get at least 2 warm but all daylight spec.The warm spec will give the plants that bit of warmth required.Get your self to the nearest local hard wear shop and buy a bathroom exstactor fan cut a hole the same size has the fan in the side of the comp unit.These are realy easy to wire up and will easy do the job.If space is a issue i would get 2 and turn the system around so instead of blowing air out it will be bringing fresh air in.This may sound like alot for a small op but when you move up to bigger things you will be left with a good cloneing and seedling room.Don't forget that cannabis doubles and tripples in size during the first 2/3 week of flowering so go for a stought but good producer like cali hash plant and flower small.Good luck.

ok heres the problem simply put!

the bulb holder cheap as chips

not very clear but basically two wires one brown ( i presume live ) the other blue ( i presume neutral ) where is the earth wire???????

the plug with lead attached i wanna put into the wall socket. opened view of plug obviously it has room for the earth wire shown in green

if i just use the brown and blue from the bulb holder straight to the plug without earth am i likely to hear the sound of fire engines and flames coming from my plug sockets?

u got alot to learn dood this is gunna b kool to watvh go down all the way from the states! hahaa but tea love the lil set up, u deffinatly need a fresh air port itll keep it kooler too. and if u need just buy a prepaid credit card with ur existing credit card!! no traces of growing!!!!!

simple sockets/lamps don't have a ground wire(usually) just the hot wire and neutral wire
larger wattage appliances do have ground, i assume this dates back from the earlier part of the electrical age
so most lamps do not have a ground

hi all well i took the plunge and wired up my 2 20w cfls in series. i was shitting it to switch the plug on lol. i used a broom handle and had the fire extinguisher nearby! TaDa! hey presto it worked!

couple of questions, 1st are the cfl bulbs suppoesed to flicker?

2nd is it safe to use wire to suspend ur light bulbs? this wire is actually touching the filament of the bulb

hi fuzzybudz thanks for looking in. did u see my earlier pics? what do you mean fresh air port? i have an inlet fan but it will be sucking in air from the room the pc is situated in. i was thinking of using ducting to connect it to an air brick that i have exposed in my wall? would this be what you mean? but i question if the air temp from outside will do harm its freezing in uk!

flickering isn't good, don't think series is right way - just used 1 bulb so didn't have this issue

il try parallel see how i get on hopefully it wong go bang or burst into flames lol

ok guys pic update. i wired the lights in parallel , no flickering, so i guess this is correct luckily i didnt blow anything up when it was in series lolll

so heres my box now. 4 days work and im quite proud. obviously i had lots to inspire me, thanks to the genius aero your aeroponics scrog amazed me and thats where i want to get to. that kind of harvest every 8/10 weeks would satify my needs twice over.

so my box looks like its light proof but still got testing to do. you may not see it clearly but i siliconed up the holes i fed the wires for the fans and the lights thru.

my bulbs are suspended by some psu supply wires which il be able to adjust from the top without having to fuck around inside the box, not sure if the will melt but bulbs are only 20watt and i have plenty of this wire lol

i think it actually looks quite stealth. ive told my missis im reconditioning pc's and she aint guessed anything yet, but i only work on it when she's not about. il do some testing and see if anybody clocks before i get the plants in there.

so all pc growers im thinking of buying auto flowering feminized seeds
10 white dwarf
10 lowberry
10 little red ryder hood
anyone got experience of these strains and which one should a novice start with? i dont want to try and grow the most difficult strain as my first go at this lol

i heard some guy on the forum talking about women saying they say you're addicted to weed etc.... but they happily smoke yours till its gone loll that sounds just like my missis!! hopefully il soon be growing decent bud under her nose and not having to pay or go hunting for it! guess women are all alike from us to uk lmao.
