New, Buying supplies tonight. Suggestions

I'm going to go HPS for my 1st grow, then based off the yield i'll make a decision on the conversion bulb. Thanks Spoc. It looks like I'm going to be using the LSD method on my plants, can't wait to get started.

Edit: How close should the light be kept away from the plant?

A good rule of thumb is to place your hand( palm down) under the light. Adjust the distance according to the temp on the back of your hand. When the distance from light to hand does not burn; this is your safe distance to the plant..

I like to buy Tropical Soil or Fox Farm soil. tropical soil is the cheaper alternative though. it comes with a very great mix, perlite, peat moss, etc. all already mixed in at a great ratio. drains very well. you just have to sterilize it before planting as it usually comes with mites or gnats. Equiptment that i would recommend for a very successful grow is pH water test kit, Ph up and down, nutrients A+B (A being a high Nitrogen mix with low Phosphurus and Potassium. B being the opposite, low nitrogen high Phosphurus and Potassium.) but you can have an ok grow without any of this. my first grow all i had was soil, wrong nutrients but i still grew an amazing bud (i call it amazingbud because of the fact i never ran ph tests, used staright tap water, etc) this shit came out with alot of white crystals though the taste wasnt good, got like an ounce off the plant. this year ive been researching alot and got all the equiptment i need. i think this time it will be more crystally and have good taste. got 8 plants vegging under a T12- 2-40watt 7000k. and going to flower with 2-433watt HPS.
