Here is a Cannarado pucker tang with a week or two to go. I had 3 others in the area. They are chopped. The bottom doesn't get much light due to branching. I cut those off. I turn the lights down towards the last couple weeks to 600 watts or so. It seems to help the top buds resin up a bit.This one has been on water only for almost 2 weeks. I may have to feed it a little before it finishs. I feed an EC of .8 of JrPeters every watering. Calmag is included. I find if I use water only the last 3 weeks or so there is usually enough buildup to last. It seems to work for me. I'm very pleased with the end product. Again it's what I do. Yoda is correct. I have found I need a bit more light than I expected. I imagine two lecs would do great as would mh. But I like the LEDs. And 700 w in that area really moves it along. I used a cool hood design spot suits me. Good luck!

What is the COB setup I just can't imagine 4x4 needing that much watts in COB I will be able to compare the 600w of cob vs 1K HPS soon the hps will get fired up tomorrow and two clones from the same plant will go in one under the led and then other under the HPS

Stop by I'll give ya half. I grow for me and a friend. He got me started smoking again after a 23 year hiatus. I can't afford to buy so 4 years later I'm hanging around here. I give him weed now. He buys the seeds. I'm an old man with arthritis about ready to retire. Amazing how much the weed helped.

I have found spread to be a problem. So you need more distance from the canopy the higher the wattage per cob or you can bleach the bud directly under the cob even if down 18 inches. So at 45 watts max per cob with 16 at a distance from 16" to 20" for me works for spread. I have no lenses or reflectors. They have their pros and cons. I also try to rotate the plant so the tallest cola's are not directly under a cob.

Yeah but there's a huge difference between 16 3590 @35w vs 100w.........
Sorry man but to me that's over kill for that area and the cost of that in COB's alone is over kill too, but to each their own.
You could thrown down $800 roughly on two 315 cmh and get close results for a lot less $$$
At today's prices you're at $640 just for LEDs that's if you didn't buy yours long ago and you still haven't said if it's diy or pre built and a pre built 16 cob 3590 light is not cheap.
I do thank you for sharing info in a civil manner despite the differentiating points of view though.

Look like we were typing at the same time before. I am using silicone lenses and running mine at @80w each COB. 8 total, a build with 16 and pin heat sinks for each etc would not have been worth the switch for me. With the pricing on new veros and citizens now too one can build a high powered light like i did for a lot less than I did.

The lenses may help the spread. I went Rambo and bought 2 42" x 10" heatsinks and staggered opposing cobs 8 per sink. I used to run veros, 8 in the same space. I ran them at 100w. Then I switched to these 3500k cobs, the veros were 3k. I'll switch back to 16 new veros next year. On the same sinks just the opposite zig zag pattern. I can switch between the two.

I use 1 Vero29C 3500k 90 CRI and 2 CXB3590 3500k 80 CRI top bon emitters and the 7th gen Vero is slightly more powerful.

I wouldn't recommend 3590's now. The veros or the citizens are a much better deal. I couldn't agree more except I only move around 100 cfm to cool and filter my grow area. That wouldn't be enough air to cool to cmh. So noise would increase and I am super stealth. In a legal state my choices would change. This allows me to run around 700 w and only move 100 cfm from my living area total for cooling and fresh air. For my situation it seems the best.

I sourced my parts at an odd time where old Vero was out of stock and the new ones had not come out and would not be for a bit if not I would have Vero 29's as well. But I also am happy with my 3590's so far, especially the 5K ones in the veg tent.

I would *love* to upgrade one of my old 400w MH units to a 315 cmh. It would totally kick ass combined with my 600w HPS.

You need at least 700w of cob in a 4'x4' to compete with 1000w of hps. His setup is not even close to overkill imo. Also, why would he waste money on two 315's when they cost more to run and give you lesser quality bud? You pay for your entire light system in one single grow so why would spending more on a cob system be a bad thing? If you want the best quality bud grown using the least amount of power and creating the least amount of noise...cobs are your answer. It would only be a matter of time before the two 315's and the extra cooling would cost more money than his grow using cobs.

Yes it may be too much in your situation but you were calling it overkill for his situation. I'm not saying your way of thinking is wrong, each to their own. In my life I've found that some things are worth spending more money on and in his situation (and most others) a cob system is always going to be better. Lower bills, easier to manage your environment, better quality buds and less money on maintenance (no bulbs burning out etc). I'm building 8 cob - 400w fixtures meant to cover 2'x4' each. Working on my second to fill a 4'x4'. It's nice having more than enough even though I don't think it's overkill so to speak.
