yea if ur using grow big u shouldnt burn em but yea hit em harder with a lil bigger dose

the funny thing is, I haven't hit them with any nutes yet :-?

this leads me to think it's Nitrogen deficiency or over watering. Probably both.

Come Tuesday I'll give them their first nutes and see how they'll feel then. All the plants are getting yellowing now so it's definitely the pH.

smokie: hey man thanks for the info, so all I really need to do is boil some water, let it sit for 24 hrs and I'm good? If I had known about this earlier I probably could have avoided the fugly yellowing

thanks again man, I'll try out all the stuff you suggested

Another thing I was considering: How the hell would I install a carbon filter or utilize a DIY one in a closet grow? I have a hole in the wall that's small but that's it and my closet door open. Not worried now, just in a month or so when I go 12/12 and it really starts to stank :joint:

Co2 + plants = faster & stronger growth right?

If I put a bowl of seltzer water (carbonated water) in my closet to evaporate, would that essentially feed my babies somehow? :dunce:

If I use purified water, would that give me a pH of 7? I have a PUR filter in my kitchen jw :)

Pictures + update by tuesday. :hump:

boiling will get rid of any chlorine/chemicals that the town/city treats it with but just letting it sit out in an open container will do the same thing- but any micronutrients are still gonna be in there either way. They aren’t bad, but if you don’t know how much of what you are starting with it’s hard to know if you are deficient or over nuting when something doesn’t look right. Distilling water collects the steam and turns it back into water. Nutrients are too heavy to travel with the steam.

I must have had your grow and yoyo's mixed up. I thought you were planting outside eventually- my bad.

Distilled or filtered??? it depends on how bad your tap is, if you just let it sit out overnight then run it thru the Pur filter you will have removed most toxins and micro nutes but ph will be unknown. you should be ok from there, just test the PH. my tap was high in chlorine and the starting ppm was over 400. it was just way easier for me to P/U distilled gallons instead of fixing my f’d up water

here is a ghetto drawing of how stilling works in MS Paint- (bored) you could easily set this up but it probably isnt cost effective and if i had the room i'd build another grow room instead!!! letting sit out 24 hrs and then filtering it is probably fine.

Ok yea I plan on heading outdoors in a month or so, just decided to keep a few indoors to take use of my HPS.

I'll go and buy some gallons of distilled water tomorrow with the pH tester and get the nutes off to a start. :hump:

Hi WC....just a quick note re: water... I've been using water from a Culligan stand at WalMart and it's done me fine. Steady PH of around 6 right out of the machine so it's easily adjusted to what you want. They use a reverse osmosis system combined with ultraviolet light and, once you but the containers ( I picked up two 5 gal.) it costs around 30 cents a gallon to refill. I've found that it just makes life easier for me, and in my hydro it's been working fine for me. Any opinions anyone?

R/O is great water to use if its available to you. its 99% pure or higher...

Day 25

Oooook well today most of the ladies looked REALLY droopy, sad and hungry. :-|

HELP! kiss-ass

I put my finger into the pot and felt mostly dryness, last watering was 2-3 days ago I believe. I really hope this is Nitrogen deficiency or I'm fresh out of ideas.

I decided to go to Walmart, grab a pH tester (without up or down solution FUCK) and a gallon of distilled baby feeding water (very pure).

The water was pHed and I can't really tell cause of the color of the chart  but I'd say it's definitely within the 6.2-7.0 range so that should be good enough.

 I fed the plants 1 tsp of Grow Big (half of the 2 tsp recommended dosage) and 1.5 tsp of Big Bloom (half of the 3 tsp recommended).

I really hope this purks the babies up, I'm scared almost all of them have suffered yellowing and drooping!

I plan on waiting 3-4 days to see results either way, but what would your prognosis be? :dunce:

i believe that it is the fertilizer that you just used. it might have been too much for these to handle. I usually go half stregnth on my full grown plants. i would flush them a little and let them perk back up

Well... that's what they looked like beforethe nutes.

To be honest, just in the past 4 hours of feeding em, they've shown a great improvement in the droopyness. Most if not all of the plants are pointing upward and look happy as hell :hump:

Now to pray for the yellowing and growth stunt to reside. :bigjoint:

unfortunatly yellowing is a thing that happens throughout the grow to a lesser or greater extent. Eventualy u want them to turn at the end. ;):joint:

chowda i wouldn't worry about the drooping at all, mine do exactly the same before they are due a feed. All my big leafsets point towards the light until a day before feeding and then proceed to droop over the next 24hrs....It works like an early warning system and gives me time to sort my water and feed out(ive noticed this right throughout my grow)...personally i still think they are too young for nutes but thats just my opinion>>>probably not a good 1 at that :)
Whats the temp like in your growroom?
Bah i really do hate to be negative on other peoples journals but they do look small for 25days man i won't lie, obviously theres an underlying factor to it..
Overwatering?
Too cold?
Not enough light?
bad soil?
Overnuting!?
light too far away?

I dunno man but im sure it will get sorted with all the experience on this site...peace :)

haha it's cool man, this is what makes me a better and more experienced grower. I'd rather someone share the same thoughts as me about the growth stunt, than to think I'm being anal and thought it myself :) All of those are excluded, except for overwatering (which I thought was the case) but I think I've got the watering under control now.

Well the plants definitely needed a feeding, they all perked up a shitload over night and have shown growth again substantially :hump: The yellowing is still present, but it's mostly bottom older leaves, so I'm not too worried. Should show the yellowing subsiding in a week.

mrwest: haha ok I just have to stop being so cautious and paranoid then
once i saw how fast they reacted to my nute feeding, I realized even more these plants can take a beating, just not several at once or rot root.

I'll post more pics in the next day or so, I also started 2 plants on LST today, first time doing it so I hope it works out well :weed:

Mandala's Satori's genetics are supposed to be LSTed so I figured I'd try it on one of them and one on the NL x skunk.

WOOOOOOOOOOOO go right from yellowing and droopy leaves to my friend DROPPING HALF THE SHIT ON MY SHELF ON MY PLANTS :wall::wall::wall::wall: :finger::finger::finger::finger::finger::finger::idea::idea::idea::idea::idea::idea::idea::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:

He was trying to "fill in" the pots with more soil, a couple seemed to have been a tad short and in the process SNAPPED MY MOST PRECIOUS ULTRA HAZE :o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o

*Luckily, she snapped right above one of the nodes, so she might even be "topped" and make 2 splittings. The cut seems a little too low but i'm praying.*

On a good note, I got the following done:

  • Removed crap homeless person cardboard from underneath plants.
  • Put plastic underneath plants (old shower curtain)
  • Lowered fan a little to create better air flow and aimed better at plants.
  • "Topped" or "Took a Dump" on an AUH#1
  • LSTed a NL x skunk and a Satori to experiment (used a hook, like the top of a coat hanger).

My biggest Satori is acting funny too. Large node spacing, strong as fuck stem, but I've got folding leaves up and down :o:?::o:?:

Any ideas?

Hope for the best, thanks again for stoppin by.

Wow...I'd have sent him to the living room for a bong hit and some timeout to think about things! Good to see nothing was irrevocably damaged.:bigjoint:

P.S. The leaf serations on that Satori look like over-water. The ridges curl like that when the plant can't get rid of moisture quickly enough.

This site here has some tips to troubleshooting your plants.

thanks alot man, I like that site's description and approach to troubleshooting, it goes from most common to least kinda.

very helpful, yea I believe I had N deficiency and a little bit too much watering. Give her a day or two to dry up then I'll give her a nice watering.

Anyone know why there's curling (and drooping) in my satoris?

Yellowing in all of them I'm almost positive is overwatering and Nitrogen deficiency, but the curling is confusing me.

One plant is curling up and down on the same node! :wall:

Can anyone give their professional opinion/thesis/hypothesis?

All in all: N deficiency, Overwatering and the curling leaves/droopyness could be multiple things.

I know I'm spazzin out but the yellowing slowly went from 2 plants to 6 then to all of them.

Now there's multiple stuff goinzon. Just read the tap water (with 24 hr sitting) and it's safely between 6.3-7.0

See, the back left one with the spacing between nodes. Curling like crazy and the yellowing (sometimes spots) crawling up my plants.

Leaf Curling Up- Leaf curling up can be a sign of a Magnesium (Mg) deficiency caused by too low of a pH level. Magnesium deficiency will show as a yellowing (which may turn brown and crispy) and interveinal (in between the veins) yellowing beginning in the older leaves. Interveinal chlorosis (yellowing) will start at the leaf tip and progressing inward between the veins. It could also be a sign of excess heat and humidity in the grow room.

Leaf Curling Down - When the leaves curl under and burn at the tips and margins it’s usually a sign that the nutrient level is too high.

Checklist for the future
:

A) test pH couple times before using
B) Water a bunch to flush out excess nutes @ next watering
C) Use 1/4 nute solution instead of 1/2
D) Water 2x a week, 3x at most and use the "Weight" method instead of the finger in soil.

ok will do! plan on flushing next watering.

So if it says 1/4 tsp for foliage feeding, should I go like half a 1/4 (1/8) for each gallon and then use the sprayer?

What's the benefit of foliage feeding? Just faster intake?

ya i always feed about half the recommended dosage and it may just be nute lock out due
to salt build up and problems with the tap water I never use tap water i always have problems when i do

oh and ya foliage feeding is a faster way of getting your plants what they need
especially when you have soil issues and there is a lock out foliage feeding is the only way to get the plants what they
need untill the soil issue is fixed
