New Grow Advice

I'm almost done with my last grow I'm a newbie still at growing but basically I'm preparing for my next grow and want to know what will produce the best yield, my last grow was ok definitely could have done better i used 6 100watt c fls n produced around 2 1/2 to 3 ounces and it took 6 months to harvest. What should i do different? Ps: didn't use any fertilizer just used plain old miracle grow and watered.

That's a pretty open ended and general question. Are you looking into buying new equipment? If so how much do you have to spend and what are your space and electrical limitations?

Yes i was looking into grow boxes and purchasing one and i want to stick to spending around 100 to 200 dollars on new lights and equipment, and i have a pretty big closet area to start the new grow
Also do you want to switch growing medias? Stick with soil or try coco or hydro?

Help me, help you.

For a closet grow I'd either try a 400w HPS or I'd look into purchasing a 2x4 T5 with 4 to 8 bulbs. I'd recommend the T5 because of heat issues. You won't need an AC unless your room gets really hot, most likely you'll just need to buy a fan to circulate the air. I've been seeing more and more successful T5 closet grows and my best advice is for you to check out YouTube T5 grows. There's one specific video where the grower scrogs the grow to incredible results. I'd also recommend trying your hand at coco. It's a lot like soil but even more forgiving if you can believe that.

Your options are very limited with only $100-$200 to spend on equipment.
A 400w hps is going to run that by its self, then you still have a inline fan and filter to buy another $100-$200.
If you already have a inline fan/carbon filter then a 400W or higher HPS would be best.
If you dont have the fan/filter I think in that price range your best option would be T5's.

When it comes to nutrients what type of fertilizer should i use?

I'm going to go out there and really promote the shit out of coco for new growers, such as myself, because of how freaking easy it is to use. Just have them sitting in well drained pots in a flood tray and water/feed until your heart's content. I will also say if you want a successful grow you will need to spend a bit of money. $100-200 isn't a whole lot but if you can somehow save up some and double that investment you can have a really nice T5, a fan, small flood tray, perhaps a small 4" inline fan with small carbon filter (not required unless odor is a big factor for you), some visqueen plastic film (trust me, you'll use it), nutrients, and get a good pH tester, PPM tester isn't as needed but adjusting your pH will prevent lockout (which in my opinion is a lot harder to diagnose than simple deficiencies). Trust me bro you're on a good path you just need to save a bit more and double up the investment.

Look at ebay or Craigslist if you dont have alot of money to spend. Some people say ebay items fail but i bought one of those whole 400 watt light setups with cables, yoyo hangers, Super HPS bulb, digital ballist, and light hood for 130$ over 3 years ago and i havn't had a single issue yet. Also you can find great cheap setups on Craigslist, i live in Washington and see dispensaries selling their old equipment for dirt cheap all the time. ZOMBIE is right thou if you have to buy the whole kit and kaboodle its going to get expensive. If you can become a medical patient, some dispensaries give out discounts IE a place called "Green Link" where i live gives out 20% discount cards to the local Hydroponics shop i buy my Fox Farms nutes there at 35 bucks for the 32oz trio pack. Hope this helps.

Money isn't really the issue if it takes a little more cash to produce a better yield that's perfectly fine so coco and t5 is the best way to go? And no nutrients needed? This specific grow that I'm coming out of that took 6 months i didn't use any ph tester or even check the temps it was basically a trial and error so now im looking more into what to get and do to get the best buds and smoke in a reasonable amount of time

That's a big negative on the nutes part. You will definitely need nutes especially if you grow in coco or hydro. Coco mixes have little to no nutrient value, unlike soil, so the plants only source of food is going to be coming from you. This is also another reason why I love coco so much, because I know exactly what I'm giving my plant at exactly what time.

Now I'm big on feeding with nutrients everyday. Coco will however retain some of the nutrient rich water that you feed it when you do feed it nutes so you giving it nutes everyday is really grower preference. You can feed with nutrients every other day or you can do a nute, water, nothing cycle, meaning you feed it nutes day 1, water on day 2, and nothing on day 3 and just keep repeating the process. This saves on nutes and water but I can only assume growth will be a bit slower. Hope this helps you bro. I'll send you a link to my thread. It may answer some questions.

So coco is better then soil and the t5 is the best way and no nutrients will help produce a better yield in a short
