Hey man,
Sounds like you're overwatering the plants if your soil stays wet 3-5 days at a time. Wait for the the pots to be really light before you water again and when you do give them water let some of it seep through the bottom of the pots.
Also, don't worry too much about underwatering them if you're around and keeping an eye on them. If it does come to that, watering will provide immediate relief (literally within 15 minues)....it's much better than having your roots rotting in a pool of mud at the bottom of your container.
