New grow setup... Does it work?

I have a friend, that lives in a place where it's 100% legal to grow.

he bought some hindu kush seeds, which are in the the process of germinating via germination pellet kit/greenhouse. (2 seeds per pellet)...Starting with 2 pellets (4 seeds) and going to pot them in a bed of rocks, topped with miracle grow moisture control potting mix in two 8" ceramic pots.

He will then grow in a 3x4 foot area lined in tinfoil and using two 15 watt philips plant and aquarium F15 bulbs, 510 lumen's per bulb..

Does this all sound right so far?

Scrap the tin foil, does more damage then good, paint the walls white or invest in some mylar or something. And you need to juice up the lights, 15 watts........don't be harsh on the plant, your tying to imitate the sun here, at a very minimum I'm guessing you need at least 70 watts from a HID bulb for one plant. For 3 or 4, buy a 200watt HPS or something. And the soil, MG is notoriously bad, i would switch to a normal potting mix if the option is there.

Hope i helped

For one plant only, CFLs are probably the way to go, but i would say you need 10x as much wattage.

Hope i helped

What if I get a bunch more of the 15watt bulbs?

no offense, it sounds like a super shitty settup.

1: dont use tinfoil it causes hotspots. tinfoil onlt reflects 70% of light and reflects 85-90% heat.
2: mirrical grow soil is hot meaning it will burn your plants. dont use it.
3: growing in rocks?? never heard of it, cant be smart
4: to grow weed efficiantly, you want about 10,000 lumins of light. for the grow stage, use 4x-55watt t5 flourecents. make sure the spectrum is around 6000k
5: germinate in seperate containers of baked peat

not triin to be a dick here, but id re evaluate, you picked some killer strans id hate to see you go through all that effort and end up with shitty herb

wont be as effective. for flowering hps are good, but not for grow.
use flouresents or mh lights for grow.

get higher watt fouresents and youl be fine. look into 55watt t5 bulbs at 6500k, theyre not super expensive and work wonders 4 me

The rocks are used at the bottom of the pot to prevent from the roots drowing.

What would you suggest for for a new setup (LINKS for the purchase please) He only has a 3x4 space to work with. and looking at only two plants at a time. His walls are painted just slightly off white

thanks for your time...

It just wouldn't be space efficient. Go on ebay or to a hyro store or something and get either an Envirolight or a HPS. If you need about 200watts, you would need a shit-load of those bulbs. Would be cheaper and better for your plant to get fewer higher wattage bulbs.

the fixtures receive 18" tubes. I can't seem to find any 18" tubes that would suffice...can you point us in the right direction?

thanks.

if going with a hid, get a 250-400watt switchable ballist, use a mh for grow and use a hps for bloom. how much head room do you have in the grow area??

loud blunts, i dont dissagree that hps will get the job done, but to get peak performance, use mh for grow and hps for bloom

wrong jaycas.

to get peak performance, you would want something with a fuller spectrum. dual spectrum mh/hps ballast make a great simulation of sunlight.

midnighttoker....HELL YES I WOULD TOSS THOSE FLOROS and get a bigger better lightning.... with a space of 3' x 4'? wtf? there should be no questions asked. i'd say go with dual spectrum all the way but thas just me (and if you have the money).

aircool & seal the lights and throw some co2 in there. no bullshit co2 either.

toss the miracle grow and get some quality soil. organic even. hell make your own.

loose the tinfoil and paint the walls flat white or get some mylar. a subsitution can be found at a dollar store or walmart in the gift wrapping section some shit called polywrap or something.

never, EVER germ more than one seed per pot/plug. well some do, but leave that up to the experienced. i always give one plant per pot....reduces problems down the line.

Great, can you hook me up with a few links to purchase the lights and accessories. Also, I want this all to be powered by plug in, not direct wire.

Thanks again.

optimum is 50w/ plant. I'm scraping by with 4, 4 foot flourescent tubes so I only have 160 watts for 20 plants! lol they are growing, just not as fast...
so your good at 50w. Minimum should be no less than 20w per plant. make sure that your lights are close enough to promote good growth NOT stem stretch. and stay the hell away from MG! I used it due to money (or lack thereof) probs. this stuff SUX there's bugs, and the soil is way too acidic. I already lost 2 of my babies due to unnaturally high acidic soil. I don't have money for anything not even a ph meter. so I bade my farewells to them, they are going the way of the Dodo bird. Oh well, I got 18 left...
