new grower fan help

hello,

went through a lot of "help i need a new fan" topic and i really didn't wanted to open another one....here we go anyway
so i have a new 4"x 2"x 5"3' tent (requires min 53 CFM to keep things happy) and i need a silent!/affordable (less than 100 pounds) fan to go with it /and a carbon filter if you have any suggestions but i haven't got myself into that topic yet, but that's next/
so far i narrowed it down to the one that got recommended by my tent manufacturer on their website. it looks ok to be honest i just don't trust websites and their recommendations for the obvious reasons...it has a fan controller and 163 CFM and 55dBA Max. i imagine if i turn this way down it will be a lot more quite? plus i would mount it with bungee cords for more stealth.

number 2 on my list: phresh hyper fan 2x more expensive. i seen a youtube video and it was pretty convincing.

and my last one is :the TD fan, seen this name come up quite a bit on forums as some sort of standard. only has 2 speeds but supposed to be silent

you can get whatever fan tickles your fancy really if you have a proper fan speed controller. you want a variac controller though. anything else will make the motor whine. I recommend getting an inline booster fan 160ish cfm for about $25 and whatever controller you want. a variac will run you about $60

Yeah as visajoe says. Get a variac and hook it up to a good fan. I see you use the magic £ so try a RUCK
on ebay. Less than that fan you listed and leaves more cash to put toward the variac. Or a systemAir.
If its quiet you want then bigger turned down is better than smaller and an oversized filter helps too.
Don't buy anything with a speed controller built in because it will hum. You might not notice it while in your grow room but it will be the noise that you hear late at night when all is quiet.

The second fan you listed is a good brand but a crap fan design. I started out with those and the parts rattled and bearings were not good.

It doesn't shout quality for that price but I can box it in and afford to throw it in the bin if its not as advertised.

Hyper fan. All day long.

I like the idea of an inline fan. I started with a 2x4x5 and you'll have some challenges. The main one, there's not a lot of room up there, for a light, fan, and filter. If that's your plan.
I figured that out pretty quickly. I have a 600w hps.
Then I tried propping it up on end in a back corner which worked well but it basically took 1 plant out of the equation. So I opted for the other option and ducted everything out and set the fan and filter on the exterior. If it's an option for you take it, or go through all the steps like I did. Lol.
I eventually upgraded to a 3x3 because I have the room.

i never collected experience with inline fans, would be cool if there is a good one.
Otherwise going for a bigger vent and dim it is normally the way to go.
The cheapest way to do this is by a generic "step transformer".
This will only work with old school AC motors, not with the new AC ones!

bit cheapish made, but nice that it have 2 speeds, lowest one is ok as long you dont need to sleep in the room.

Quite good, first i thought it is too powerfull, but the inbuild speed regulation works very well even on low percentages, no hum or else, you can easily use the unhearable 10%, very silent up to 30%.

Considering that there are normally costs involved anyway to dim the vent, the above price seems ok to me.
EC all the way, but take care you can dim it, this can be hard to do externally then.

Benefit of EC Motors are also, much less power consumption.

AAnd it is EC Motor based, i am quite sure there is no hum with the inbuild controll.

Those EC based ones are all newer tech, the TD silent is quite old, if it is the one they sell since 20 years.
that one can be dimmed by a step transformer, while it seems if you go too low with the voltage he breaks as some users reported.

If you get one of the blue ones, please let us know if theyre silent, as it seems to be a fair offer.
I read a recommendation for them, they dont seem to be bad.
