New grower in MN

Hey im new to the forum and ive been planning an outdoor grow for the 2011 spring. I live in central MN, I live on a family farm of about 1000 acres. There are not many places on our farm that are away from a corn or soybean field. I was wondering if farm fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides will effect my plants? I have heard of people who say they have grown in the middle of a corn field but i figured the herbicide would not act friendly towards marijuana. Also being new to the growing scene i was wondering if any other MN growers had any tips about dealing with adverse weather or any tips in general.

any help would be greatly appreciated

I'm also wondering what the best soil mixture would be, i plan on planting in the ground no pots or buckets. Ive heard good things about fox farm and i know there is a retailer who is close to me. Also what nutes should i be looking for to add?

Here's a MN thread from last year https://www.rollitup.org/outdoor-growing/327392-mn-outdoor-2010-a.html

I haven't grown in corn so I'll leave that to someone else; there are lots of such threads if you look. But yes, you will lose your plants the first time the field is sprayed with Roundup. Either wait until spraying is done to plant, or maybe plant in containers and move the plants away from the field for a few days during spraying. Good luck!

Yea ive never grown in corn either just wanted to say that the Fox Farm is good. But ive used something better before but i cant remember the name... If i think of it ill post it.

Either veg inside until spraying is done (usually like june) or plant them in the erosion prevention breaks (the grass strips) in the fields and hope there isnt any over spray. But with 1000 acres Im sure you have some small strip of timber or area thats not being farmed.

thank you for the responses. We do have quite a bit of deciduous forest that is away from fields, would plants receive enough sunlight to grow efficiently in the woods? It is not extremely dense forest but there is a canopy of trees

Haha yeah i guess your right, im about 1.5 hours west of the cities. Also I'm kinda looking for other growers that are in my area that have extra seeds i could buy, or a female plant that i could buy some clones from. Or if there are any MN growers that have tips on growing in this state of unpredictable weather.

Alot of us MN growers, just gotta get into the right click! Usually wont find us with the dumbys that hustle it but more like farmers and such... just do some peaking! Down around your area there is quiet a bit of ditch weed, plenty of seeds in that! ;) haha plus its native so it will finish early lol! Good luck otherwise im sure if you stay on here long enough you will find some kind freinds to help you out! So stick around for awhile!

Oh dont worry i plan on stayin here for quite a while, this is one of the best growing forums on the web. Like you said, i dont plan on hustling at all. Im just growing enough for me and enough to smoke up my buddies from time to time. Im just sick of payin for it, is it just me or is weed in MN about double the price of anywhere else?

Even so man, I can speak for many growers from MN I have seen some of the dankest pot in my life here in MN but also in Cali!
You may say it comes from cali but it comes from MN growers, also if you know the right people in MN you can get ANY genetic line that cali has to offer or amsterdam or canada or ANYWHERE at that rate! With that being said I bring attention to follow along with MN growers as we see many new MN growers AND many new Genetic Lines! :)

Is it time for a "MN GROWERS UNITE" thread..... after pondering for 10 seconds, I THINK SO! will post the link when Started!
