Okay because I have to be inconspicuous here... my window is like 40 feet from my neighbors house, he won't be able to smell anything if I am running that duct out the window? Okay well I guess I need to go buy my stuff to build my DWC... because I germinated the girls and put it in a net pot with miraclegro and now I want to move it to DWC.. I wonder if that is bad?
well the only thing i would say thats bad about this is that moving soil to a DWC because the soil will eventually break down in the system and can clog any water pumps and get your DWC dirty, thats why alot of people use rockwool cubes for DWC. and as long as you have that cabon filter attached to that air duct that is blowing out your window they wont smell a thing.

Well I am saying I am going to move to the DWC... not doing soil. but I get a substitute for the soil as in hydroton grow rocks, then put the actually seedling in the rockwool, correct?

you mean your putting the seedlings in a rockwool cube then putting it in the miracle grow untill you get your DWC ready then putting the rockwool in the DWC system? i guess that could work? i dont see to much of a problem just getting the roots out safely. im sorry if thats not what you mean im just not fully understanding?

No no no no, lol. Soil for now, then the rockwool once I build my DWC within next couple days.

i just dont get how your going to get them into the rockwool once you plant them into the soil. when you put the plants into soil for now how do you expect to get it into the rockwool cubes? i mean i guess you might be able to??? its just that its going to start building up a whole root structure once its in the soil and those roots are going to be hard to put it in the rockwool without breaking them. i have a hard time as it is getting a germinated seed in the rockwool without breaking the small root lol

Well it is maybe a 1/2" tall.. with just a single root for now... My lights haven't arrived in the mail yet. so I have been using 2-40w lights for now... lol germinated a little early... but I also have more seeds coming in.. just trying to prepare myself instead of coming in blindly.

yeah i guess if its only going to be for a couple days, i would put the germinated seeds into the rockwool first though and bury it in with the soil then when its time to change to DWC dig up the rockwool cube and the root maybe by then wont even be out of the cube yet or maybe just a little out then just wash down the cube and put it in the DWC. instead of trying to fit a root into a rockwool after taking it out of the soil. idk either way man good luck with that transfer and with the grow!

Ive started in a 16oz solo cup with FFOF soil let grow till it was about 10" then cut bottom out of cup when it was good and dry.
Gently pulled the roots tht were circling the bottom of the cup out till they were hanging.
Covered top of cup good with Duct tape, then set the cup in the Mesh pot and pulled roots thru also then put it in a Waterfarm
with roots in the hydrotron, Worked fine mine is the one with a Coco lid 10" so use the drip ring thru hole grow because of the
large rootmass in the lid.

So you are saying it shouldn't be a problem then? My little girl still only has it's one root coming off of it. But have not been putting it under intense light, and using miracle grow until I build my DWC

Id wait till its established good and has a good root mass,But yea ive only did it 1 time and it werked great.
Ive also noticed DWC does not need as much nutes as other Soiless grows because roots are always sitting
in nutes, opposed to flood and drain.I never go more than 600ppm to 800ppm being max.And use Lucas F with
GH Micro and bloom,no need for the grow nute as theres plenty Nitrogen in the Micro.

All you need is air pump a dual 60g, 2 very good stones. One 5g buckett, meters and hydro nutes.PH down as i really never need PH up.Simple cheap and very effective.

Now if I want to do 3 girls, could I use a 15 gal tote tub? and do the DWC like that?

Problem would be plants roots fighting and tangling together if you grew good size plants. Also if ya have issues you could loose all plants, opposed to 1.If you made, bought 3 Waterfarms easy could pull 3ozs per system after you get nutes, temp Dialed in.

So would the Waterfarms have their own system or will they all be runnin off one pump etc? I may order the little $10 kits online and go buy a bucket and start from there

Depends on the Waterfarm, have one with Coco lid and needs a drip ring all the time lid 10" deep full of hydrotron.=Big ball.
5g buckett, lid ,Hydrotron, Dual 60g pump, a T, hose ,Mesh pots.2 airstones.Would be what you need.

Or 60-80 bucks for Waterfarm and GH 3-part nutes.Pump for this is drip ring,no need after roots hit the water.
I prefer the Big pump for air,Small ones just imo do it.It didnt come with air pump or stones.

Okay, so when I germinate & next is the seedling, how far do you keep the light from the girls? and how about in veg stage after nodes have grown etc? How often should I water the seedling until I transfer to the DWC? When I first germinate a seed, can I automatically put in the rock wool and the DWC?

step 1: germinated and wait for tap root to be between 1/4 of an inch before placing it in the rockwool.

step 2: put rockwool cube in humidity(60% to 90% open once in a while to let fresh air in) dome and place under light(18-6 or 24-0), if your doing cfl you can place right on top of the dome. if your doing hid i about place about 1 and half above the dome.

step 3: once they pop out switch to 18-6 and veg for another 2 to 3weeks under 18-6 cycle and no nutes. ( once the roots grow out the bottom of the started cube you can either put them into net pots + hydroton or place them in a bigger cube)
