New Grower With A New Idea

Hey there, I'm new to the forum, and to growing. I've been reading up on both straight hydroponics and regular soil growing. For me personally I think a combo of the two would be easiest and will show mild improvements In yeild, over plain soil. Tell me what you think. I have seen numerous videos where the hydroponic grow uses small obsorbant balls (I believe they even come with nutrients) anyways I've been thinking of placing a fishtank diffuser into each flower pot (drainless pots) run by a fishpump, providing plent of oxygen to the roots of the plant.(which should help prevent the roots from "drowning" in too much water. I've also considered running a small piece of hose from the surface to the bottom of the plant,to directly inject mixed nutrients to the roots. I'd also be using a mist to provide nutrition to the leaves. The whole point of this is to help simplify growing so that I can't over water. (I want to be able to leave it for 3 days here and there if I camp....and not have to worry about flooding (full hydro setup, or over: drying soil)

Would pumping oxygen be benefitial to plants roots that have been fully submersed in water ? (I'd probably put, if you guys say it's safe, put a bunch of water in the day I plan to leave) doing so would surely be considered over watering in the standard soil setup, but with the large circular balls, and an oxygen diffuser. the air should travel easily to the surface. allowing the roots a constant supply of fresh oxygen. (I've also considered in the future adding carbon dioxide to the air mixture.).

Any suggestions? Or comments?

Btw, if TOO much oxygen is a worry I could simply put the pump on a timer.

You are roughly describing how any number of hydroponic systems work. Read up on them here and you'll know plenty to start growing

I was under the imppresion most hydro systems required a passage from the flower pot to the bucket. with nutrients....that the roots grow through. Don't most also ussually use a seperate pump placed in the nutrient container? to constanty pass Water from the flower pot, then drip into the nutrition bucket that the roots sit in, after passing through the the openings in the pot. And ussually most hydro systems require I'd like to just let the water/ nutrients sit in the pot with an air diffusers to stop root rot.

Go full bore with DWC if you want to go the fish pump route. Don't bother with soil. There are a million posts on this site on how to do build your own DWC system and it's relatively cheap for the average person.

Sry phone musta missed a word.

" ussually most hydro systems require" *plumbing* "I'd like to just let the water sit"

the reason I don't want any plumbing is because it holds a chance of failing and flooding. if I'm gone for 3 days that's alot of water to consider. I'm just worried it might be too much oxygen for the roots.... Or that this method will cause my overall yield to decrease when compared to soil.

Search hempy buckets - they are what you're describing
