new grower with questions

Hey guys im a new grower. I been doung my homework always looking up new things about indoor growing. I srarted wit cfl but didnt like them nd i had a t5 fixture. Now i have a mh/hps fixture i love it. But im gonna post some pics to see wut use think nd if use think they look as gresymt as i do and any comments nd help is much apprietiated

Btw i have 6 plants all together to start they were bag seds feom good bud i wantex to get a grow under my belt nd learn some stuff before i started spending alot of money on good seeds. But please comment nd leave some advice

Also pictures are about 4 days old plants are on about day 44 of veg give or take a couple days. Will post updates pics if wanted as well.. and more info im using a mh/hps ballast. Rite now its a 400 watt mh light nd the area is about 2 x 2 x mabey like 3.5ish to 4ish feet tall. Lmk if u want more info=))

hey dude they look like pretty healthy plants so far. Seem a little small for 44days.
but there healthy so don't go trying to change nothing !!
how long are you ganna let them veg before you flower?

Thanx im trying my best lol. Nd yes to nutes i use stump tea for the roots nd u use earth juice and foxfarms big grow i was using 1/4 strength nd went up a lil. Nd i thoyt they seemed a lil small but i was usimg the cfls nd the t5 for like the hole time i out the mh ligjt in abiut 5 days ago nd the blew up big time so i was rhinking of letting tht light do its job nd met them veg another week or 2 or until there about 12 to 14 inches cuz ik they usally double in suze un the flower stage rite

Well so far so good . I'd LST them if you can pull them branches down and force the plant upward . Take advantage of the small space . If not get ready to flower . Try supercropping during flower I usually just do the main stem ( give a nice lil pinch ) on the onset of 12-12 . For a week she will heal and then she will produce nice big buds . Time to experiment techniques now with bag seed . Or else how you gonna learn

i have a 10x10x10 build room in a room. i run 4 x 250w clf for veg due to the blue light spectrum they give off. this is what plants need when in seedling an veg. help with growth an health. in flowering i use 3 x 400w hps for the red spectrum they give off for budding
3x 16inch fan 1x outtake fan 8inch 1 x intake fan 5inch. 2 x Co2 bag 1500ppm output. u run 20 plants all in. all this with 3 nutes. working on my grow book for PDF.

but your using clf so your doing great for veg you mh/hps will be great for flowering an will increase yields as well. 1 tryed the T5 for a flowering grow it worked but got less yield then i thought. like 2 ounce pre plant due to lack of lumens think it was around 40 lumens where your hps is giving off 90k or 120k lumens. remember dont feed them yet. your soil has feed an when you move them to a bigger pot your new soil has feed in it for 2-3 weeks. i feed my girls in veg but b4 i use the soil i drown it with water for a cupple of days to run as much of the nutes out it. so when i plant my seeds an they sprout i can give them small feeds to help with growth an other things. i will be doing a NEW grow video for all tips an hints on growing

One thing I can say is they look way too dry. The microbes in the products you're using need moisture to be effective, and of course the plant and roots need it too.

Under watering would explain the small size of the plants and the light green leaves. Roots need moisture to absorb nutrients effectively as well.

U think? I usualy water them every 2 ma ey 3 days depending hiw dry the soil is. And ill mist the plants as well on somedays tht im not watering

When you water them, you should water them thoroughly. Here is what I said in another watering post today:

So the proper way to water soil\less media is to water thoroughly when you do water, until you get run-off so you know the media is saturated. If you lift your pots now they will be heavy. Then you wait until the soil surface has for the most part dried out (before it is bone dry). The pots will be much lighter and easier to lift. Then you water thoroughly again.

If you wait until the soil surface is all hard, cracking and/or pulling away from the sides of the container; you waited too long*. If that is the case you'll need to start watering very slowly. There has to be some moisture in the media for it to even absorb water properly, otherwise you can end up with dry spots where roots will not grow well, and what looks like nutrient deficiencies.

*If your soil is too dry and you go to water it you are likely to notice that the water initially pools up on the soil surface. It may run down the sides of the container and out the drainage holes, apparently as run-off, but in reality very little was absorbed into the media.

I can tell your soil is bone dry, and media that dry will not absorb water well. After you water try to lift your containers to make sure they are heavy, confirm the water actually was absorbed. Don't be afraid to water properly.

Thank you for ur help i apprietate it alot. I have seen tht hapoen smetimes but usual wrn i water it does go all the way threw nd the pots are heavery but even wen the top is dry if u srick ur finger in the soil under the top is moist i try to stick my finger in up to my first knuckle nd see if its moist

Even if it is 'moist' underneath, it is still time to water. People mistakenly believe that their soil is supposed to be totally dry before they water- it is not. This is the point I am trying to make. There needs to be moisture in the soil for it to even absorb water properly: just like the way a moist sponge absorbs more water than a dry sponge.

So, moist underneath is fine and just what you want, I would say, so long as your pots still aren't heavy. If only the soil surface is truly drying out, there is another issues somewhere. For example, if you are using a fan for circulation, keep it on low and don't have it blowing on the pots constantly, as that would cause the surface to dry out faster. Oscillating fans are ideal.

Otherwise, as the soil surface drys out it should wick moisture from the rest of the media. Wetting agents like yucca extract aid in hydrating potting mix and keeping the moisture dispersed.

Yea but the soil gotta be somewgat dry cuz roots beed to brearh oxygen if there drenvhed in water they could just get root rot and or die.. nd at one point i was over watering them so thts why i kinda been more careful with the watering

What I see there is way more than "somewhat" dry. Quality potting mix holds still holds air when wet. Proper watering facilitates air exchange by pulling air (with oxygen) into the medium. Plant roots will not grow so well where it is dry. Trust me, if you take your plant out of that pot and find yellowing roots (or poor root growth) it is from under watering.

Overwatering occurs from keeping your media constantly saturated, or sitting in stagnant water. Proper watering goes something like: -> Saturate -> dry out -> saturate -> dry out or -> Wet -> slightly moist -> wet -> slightly moist. I know it is confusing when you have a bunch of other people saying things like "be careful blah blah don't over water blah, don't saturate or drench the soil blah blah overwatering blah", but saturate/drench is exactly what you should be doing... just when the soil needs it, not every x days or when it still wet already. Big difference between wet, moist, dry and bone dry.

No tht actuely makes alot of sense thank u. But wen i last transplanted the roots were pure white they looked great but they look great niw those pics were taking abiut a weej before i posted them. Rbey look beautiful now im thinking of putting rhem into flower in like a couple days ill take more pics tomorrow wen the lights come on to show an update=)
