New Grower

I am starting to grow soon. My brother has been growing for 11 years. I have learned a lot when I was younger by sneaking into his room while he was out. He had a very complicated but very good set up. He grew about 15 plants kb kind bud in his room. I know all about the plant and growing, atleast I think. I am very limited on grow space so I will be purchasing lowryder #1 seeds. I have a few spots Im thinking about growing in. My closet in my dresser. I will cut the bottom and part of the back out for ventilation. I will use 2 4inch fans one blowing in and the other out purchased for $7 a piece at wal-mart. i will wrap the bottom hollowed draw in foil and install a 70wtt fluorescent light on top with a light timer. I will put 5-10 plants in there. It is 16in deep, about 20 in. wide, about 36in long will it work??

also i think i might have a metal halide bulb

5-10 plants? I think that's too many. I'd try it out with just two so you can use less light and see what kind of heat problems you have.

i would start out with CFLs. thats what im using right now, and ive also heard alot of negative things regarding the long fluorescent lights. but ive never used them myself

The tube fluorescents will be enough for seedlings and clones but for vegetating and flowering you will need better lights. Compact fluorescents are a cheaper option. Metal halides and high power sodium lights are ideal. It'll be hard to grow 5-10 plants in your grow area, especially with the height issue (im assuming the 16 inches is the height, correct me if I'm wrong). What wattage is your metal halide bulb? You will need to get the ballast for it. 150w should be enough for your grow area, 250w would be better but will get hotter and will be harder to manage.

Yeah 70 watts is totally inadequate for 1 plant never mind 5-10. Even if they are lowryder. 70 watts will grow NO-ryder lol.

What is the height? is that the 16? Cuz that aint much. take away the size of the pot, the overhead lights and the distance from the plant to the light and you've barely got 8-10 inches of height left to grow. And thats being generous.
I would recommend 1 CFL per plant for the 1st 2 weeks.
And if you put a MH in there its going to get HOT.
I veg with T-12's. (and CFL's) they work really well. They grow a little slowly compared to an HID, but there's zero stretching. I can have the plants growing right into the bulbs. Actually touching the tubes. So theres no space between the plants and the light. Would work well in a height restricted area.

Lowryders do grow fast but even so, 70w will only be enough lighting for a few weeks and won't be enough for vegetating the plant to anything considerable. Even for a small budget grow, I'd say you need at least 150-200w of CFLs a plant. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but 70w will get you a weak, overstretched plant that won't yield anything considerable.

my bad shouldve been more specific .. i have found a new grow space ill have about 10-15 inches after full height just an estimate including the pot hot .. im picking up some cfls soon, tomorrow , whats the best i could get from lowes wattage etc. price ? should i buy a light timer or not , I heard that ryders on a 20,4 taste better and yeild more????!!! still 5-10 plants,, plenty of room and ventilation thanks for the help

I like the combo of the seed starter and potting mix. But not THAT potting mix. You dont have to do much reading in here at all to see more people having more problems with that MG pre fertilized CRAP. You have no control over the feeding of your plant with that stuff. And if someone wants to say that MG worked good for them, thats fine, I'm very happy for you really, but that person is the exception rather than the rule. People who dont know what their doing get screwed by MG. If you MUST get MG, get the Miracle Grow Organic so you dont burn the shit out of your plants. Mix that with some starter mix or some perlite and vermiculite and you're there.
"how much youll think thatll run me?"
A few CFL's? A few dollars. Can't you just steal a few from your closets or something LOL. Dont tell me your still running incandescents!? Are you old enough to be on this site??? I hate it when I find out I'm helping kids :-|
