New Growroom Setup!

Hi all. Just setting up a new/refurbished grow room. Prior to now, it was never fully sealed, no co2, not much for fans. 1 1000w light, open air. Best I ever got was about 1 oz per plant, that's after about 1 ft vegging, then to flowering. The wife got her card for 15 plants, so I'm off to the races now! I have ordered a 12 bucket aeroponic farm from fastergardens.com. $300 bucks only, so what the hell. I used an aeroflo36 before this, but too hard to get in and manicure and too much of a pain in the ass to clean. I have put up vapor barrier, and just about done with the ORCA skin. For anybody who has never used this ORCA before, including me, this stuff is very easy to work with. It is not a plastic, or at least doesn't feel like it. It feels more like a fabric, and it is very strong. I am going to run 2x1000w lights. One light for six pots. Hopefully, I'll have the lights on seperate light rails for the six pots. Light rails might have to wait for next grow. Gonna spend too much as it is. Room is 8'L x 7'H x 6'W. I want 8" a/c reflectors, but not sure which I should get. (Any suggestions?) I will be using compressed gas for co2, and am looking at the ATMOS-D1 Deluxe Digital Atmosphere Controller. Anyone have any experience with this? All I need is a controller that will operate my can fan in conjunction with my co2 system. Any other ideas for other controllers? I have pictures of my room before the vapor barrier, during, and with the ORCA skin. If I can figure how to upload pictures, I'll update everything as it happens. I'm pretty slow, so I imagine this will take a couple of weeks for me, at least. I have some wappa and uk cheese clones going, and a vanilla kush motherjust waiting to get cloned!

This is a first for me, so if anybody has any suggestions, or notices any potential problems, PLEASE SHOUT OUT!

Don't know if I'll need an a/c due to the fact that I'm in the basement. It never got colder than 63f, and never warmer than 74-75f. That was with open air light and ballast in room. If I need one, I can get one at Wally World. (Wal-Mart)
I will be getting a dehumidifier though.

That's got to be the cheapest 12 bucket system ever advertised. Free shipping, too! May not need an A/C. I'd hold off buying one till you know you need it.

very nice starting out right the first time. +rep
get a good exhaust cus those lights will be hot! dont get the AC till you check room temps with lights and exhaust on might not need it especially since with CO2 you can have the temps on the higher side :weed:

Not free to Canada. $140 dollars. Guy screwed up and it sat at fed ex for a week instead of ups, so he took $60 dollars off.
So about $420 for hey...(420) ! lol, so about $420 for shipping and taxes~

I have been looking at reflectors, but they seem to be for certain ballasts. I was thinking about the lumenAire 6" a/c reflectors, but the site says they are for quantum and/or Sunlight supply ballasts. I guess they just plug into the ballasts? Can I cut the end of the plug off, and just join the cords? Or unhook the reflector cord from the plug and just hardwire my ballast into the socket that comes with the reflector? I have 1 8" elicent fan which i am going to use on my can filter, and 2x4" elicent fans that I am going to run my lights off of. 1 4" fan for each light. I decicded to go with 6" cooling reflectors instead of 8 because I don't really need 8". Also, I don't want to reduce from 8-4, 6-4 will be better. I already have the 2 fans also, so I'll stick with them.

Man that ORCA is hard on the eyes. I hung 1 1000hps light in the room to see what it's like, and I can't look into the room for more than a couple secs or my eyes start to water! Friggen bright! Awesome..

Don't know the size of my can filter, but it is about 3-4 ft tall, and hooked to an 8" elicent fan. This will definately be big enough to vent my room! :)

I lost a post somewhere about reflectors. Sorry if I'm duplicating!

I am going to go with 6'" a/c reflectors instead of 8". Each light will be connected to a 4" elicent fan. 2 light, 2 fans. I was looking at a lumenAire reflector, but it says it is compatable with Quantum and Sunlight supply Ballasts. Is that because these reflectors just "plug" into the ballasts? Mine are hardwired to their sockets. Could I just disconnect the cord from these reflectors and hardwire my own ballasts to them?

That Orca is bright! I hooked up one 1000w light to check it out, and I can't look in the room, never mind the light, for more than a couple of seconds before my eyes start to water.

WHY WOULDN'T THAT FORMER POST SHOW UP BEFORE I HAD TO RETYPE?

Oh well, nothing better to do I guess... :)

ok, I know what happened. I had this page saved a s a favorite. When it loaded, it did not show the now post! lol

Anyways, here are a couple of pics of the start of my project. I have a thermometer in the room after the 1 1000 was hanging, and it went to 82 degrees.(after 1 hour, and staying there.) Definately going to need the ac hoods. Much warmer now that it is "sealed." Not much for a door, but I am going to place the orca on it with velco strips i think. I was also considering getting a sheet of styrofoam, holding it against the door and tracing an outline. Then cut it out, and put two handles on it so i can pull it against the jams as IDSC00289.jpgDSC00290.jpgDSC00292.jpgDSC00294.jpgDSC00295.jpgDSC00296.jpgDSC00297.jpgDSC00304.jpgDSC00307.jpgDSC00308.jpgDSC00311.jpgDSC00316.jpgDSC00317.jpgDSC00319.jpgDSC00321.jpgDSC00322.jpg leave. It should be pretty close to airtight then. That reflector is for my 600w hps. Just used it for these pics. My other reflector is being used in my other room for the mothers. You can see the light from my 1000w metal from the first pic. (trying to get some nice shoots incase my system takes too long to get here and I have to re-clone. I have 3 rooms this size. If all goes well, I will grow medically for others. I already wrote the online test, and have been accepted into the program. I just told them to put me on hold until I get a few "legit" grows under my belt, before I have someone relying on me for their medicine!

Light rails are sexy, but I think most of us will suggest you not use them...even in a small area your are cutting into the intensity of a stationary light. If your basement stays that cool...huge bonus...just keep the fans blowing. Orca can be a PITA LOL. The air-cooled reflectors and good ventilation may be all you need. Test your system.
Good luck!

Black and white poly I found to be a PITA! Bending and creasing and such. I did the room myself with ORCA, just seemed stable and easy to hang, even on the ceiling. But this is only the 2nd time i ever put anything on the walls, so between black and white poly, or panda, whatever its called, ORCA was much easier to put up. It is 64f without the light, and 80f, not 82, with the one light on. Plan on putting 2 up though

The LumenAire will have a male plug with two round pins and one flat one. HydroFarm has three round pins only. What do your ballasts have? If they have three round pins, you can get an adaptor cord about a foot long that will connect the two different cords. Make sure you get the male/female ends right when you buy, they make the cords both ways. You want the BAASR cord model, not the BAASP. Here a link to one:http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-BAASR-CORD-Ballast-Hood-Fixture-Receptacle-Adapter-Brand-S-Hydrofarm-Ballast-/120807794313?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c20b4a689 If you hardwire them, it will be difficult moving them around, plus it will void any warranty you have. Where are you measuring your temps? At the canopy? Funny, I expected to see concrete walls, don't know why I assumed it was an unfinished basement.

It is unfinished. Only the three rooms with subfloor and 70's panelling for the walls. Each room is roughly 8l x 6w x 7h. The rest is all concrete. Nice and cool! My ballasts, one a high-lite, another a no-name, plugs into any standard outlet. Two flat prongs, and one round one on the bottom. Room is empty right now, so temp is on a chair about2 feet off ground. One cord goes to the wall, the other is hardwired to its own socket. Same on all 3 ballasts. 2x1000w, and 1x600w.

Pictures of my 2 1000w ballasts, and their plugs. Those are some weird looking plugs. Never seen those kind before..(2round 1 flat kind).DSC00331.jpgDSC00323.jpgDSC00324.jpgDSC00325.jpgDSC00326.jpgDSC00327.jpgDSC00328.jpgDSC00329.jpgDSC00330.jpg
