and 2 600s is great, get a cooltube
check out jigs grows i'll link later if i think about it, but vertical cooltubes are the way to go for heat resolution
maybe even watercooled, i've thought about, but what is your budget? iu'm looking at about a grand or so, including seeds and nutes and such, and i want a co2 emitter..... a lot to loook into, but i've seen 2 plants come to aout 1.5 pounds in a 3x3 closet with 2 small vertical lights

im considering using a 600watt, everywhere i read, people say the 1000's are to hot and a waste is this true? and .... 2, 600 watts would be kinda hot in that 8x8 right ? what i also need is like, how do you setup exhaust for the heat? so lets say in my room, i put a 600 watt hps hanging from the ceiling with the 6in cool tube reflecter. ok so now i buy the 6in inline fan... but where does it go ? i look at the pictures with exhaust, but i cant c which end has the carbin filter and which end has the fan attched. or however it goes. i dont know how it goes.
1000w with proper ventilation isn't going to produce much more heat than a 600w. Of course that requires proper ventilation. The biggest difference comes in since you can put more plants under 2x600 than you can 1x1000.

For ventilation you would normally do: [INTAKE] -> Light -> Duct -> Light -> Duct -> Fan -> Filter -> [EXHAUST]

Your exhaust should be expelled into another room, attic, or outside to provide proper efficiency. As the room gets warmer, cooling efficiency decreases, and then the temp begin to rise exponentially.

yeah 600w are the way to grow man. ive done it with one 1000w and it really only does a 6x6 area. two 600w would do a 5x10 area and if you vent them right you can put them pretty close to your plants witch is always good!!

Man get rid of that mold first. Creepy. If you have that much now imagine the problems down the road when you add more moisture.

Regarding the 600's. Honestly, they are not worth it. If you are going to run 600's run 1000's. The price is often not that much or at all different for the ballast, the same goes for the bulb. Heat is not an issue if you vent properly and you will get much better penetration and therefore better end results with the 1000's.

A proper hood with a seal between the light is your best friend. Some of the cool tube solutions have little tiny reflectors, often they don't have any which is a waste.

dude this guy doesn't knows what he's talking about but again your a newbie the shit he's talking about is gonna cost you alot more then just buying a bag that has everything you need to start off with and be fine for the first month of vegg because it already has the nutrients you need for the first month in it, like he said "YOU DO NOT NEED FOX FARM SOIL TO GROW GOOD DOPE!" well true you dont but you wont be getting good yeilds out of no cheap soil believe that nonscense if you want but thats all on you, if you want good yeild and good buds go with fox farms dude i dont got a job i go to school basically im broke. if you save up some money you can buy it seriously!
heres the thing, you say OF has 1 month worth of nutes, then what, you need to fertilize, so you either get some nutrients or transplant into bigger and bigger pots which costs more 1 bag of FF will fill 3-3 gallon pots if he grows 30 plants, thats $200 worth of soil. I say if you want to spend the most money somewhere then its on good genetics..... You can have the best soil but if you have bagseed then your plants will suck anyways. but you did drop $200 on good soil. or make your own soil and spend the rest on good genetics and get a great harvest. just my $0.02

I'm with this guy and it's a lot cheaper to make your own dirt. It's not a complicated process. Farmers have been doing it for years, of course I perfectly well understand most of don't what a farm is or what goes on at one. In which case buying fox farms is probably a much more reasonable option. It's certainly good stuff, and I've bought it myself, but at $20/bag I could do better. Hell if I just had tobacco farms in Cali I'd be set, that stuffs better than bat guano imo.

well, you don't NEED much - true - but if you want a decent yield in terms of size, wight, density of bud and make it worth your time, then yes, spending a little extra for good quality soil and nutes is worth it.
FF Happy Frog and Ocean Forest is a good mix - and you don;t need any nutes for the first couple weeks. I would argue that going to a local nursery and buying FF soil and nutes instead of cheap crap is not all that much more comp-licated, but hey, everyone has a different size brain pan.
If you think that is too complicated, then just drop the seeds in some soil, hang a light, water 2x a week and see what you get. I think part of this is getting into it along with my plants.
I get out what I put in.

For your first grow I would recommend starting small. I started with too many plants and went from about 12 to 4 after discarding a few due to space issues. I would say for more even light distribution you might want to consider two 600 watt hps if you can afford it as the light footprint won't cover the whole room with one lamp. If I were you I would start with 8 feminized plants of your own choice. Mix about 1/3 perlite and you can use miracle grow moisture control potting mix. Everyone will flame me but their are several successful growers using Miracle grow and it has barely any nutes so it won't burn your plants when they are seedlings. Also, I would consider covering the walls or repainting them as you may face mold or mildew problems quite easily with that room.

First things first: Get some detergent or some kind of anti-mildew chemical and scrub every inch of that room. Yes, I said every inch. That means the ceiling, walls and floor.
Then, repaint the whole room to prevent further mildew forming. Matt white paint is good. Put it on thick. Or if you're planning on using some kind of reflective material, then use outside paint as it is a lot more resistant.

Also, I can't see a 1000w 0r 2 x 600w covering an 8x8 area very well. I have 3 x 600w in a 3.5 x 7 grow space. That said, you said you only want to grow 15 plants, so maybe it will be enough if you keep them close together. Avoid cool tubes. They are good for cooling but they lack light spread.

Yes Airwave is right, all bulbs have a footprint in which they are effective your room can handle 4-1000w lights. but can you? If you get into cloning you need another room for the mom and clones or be a seed farmer and always start from seed. but the more we talk to more it is going to cost you! Start with 1 light, good soil( store bought or home made), a vent fan, and some good genetics. thats it that is all you need anything else is for an increase in harvest. Does not mean you wont harvest anything but you wont enjoy growing if it is to complicated... I run 4 hydro systems and an organic system and I spend 90% of my time just staring and admiring their beauty.

thank you guys for the responses. i have a update. I cleared all the shit outa that dungeon. wiped most the cobwebs and such out, swept real good. today i got the dehumidfier, and digital thermostate + humidity thingy. i have 3 mystery bag seedlings, my biggest so far is a 7 leaf, i have two milk crates they are sitting on and for now i threw 2 x 26 watt cfl 6500k and 2 x 23 watt cfl 2700k on them. ima take some pics later tonight and add a rotating fan later. I dont think ima paint the room. i think ima line it with mylan or whatever its called, or the cheapest substitute, my budget is tight, i like mrcools grow jounrnal on his 600 mh/hps setup. im trying to mimic it like how he started with the fluros, then came the mh/hps but i have soil seedlings and he had clones. my buget will allow a 600 hps and ima try to squeeze in the mh conversion bulb. i think my biggest problems alreay are going to be humidity and bugs, i have these little tan bugs dont even know till they move on the leaf there so tiny, i have no idea what they are. but when the time comes id like help with venting. ima veg halfway with cfls, cause by that time ill have my hps. and comments would be apreciated. thanks.

i have also located the local hydro store ahha. right now i jacked my mother-in-laws miracle grow potting soil. shit seems to work fine, the seedlings like it i think. i just wanna grow 15-20 females in that 8 x 8 room with a 600 if thats possible, and produce 2-3 ounces a plant.

If you are no a tight budget I would suggest a 1000w. It is about the same price as a 600w. hps system. But the 1000w. comes in a switchable ballast, and the bulbs will be cheaper conversion bulbs will run less lumens and have a shorter life. You are looking for a yeild of 40-60 oz. Not real possible with a 600w. unless you have a beefy hydro with good genetics. So your going to be better off with a 1000w. and use a 5x5 or a 6x6 footprint.

Dude idk this is Getting
more complicated then it is if you have to just do 10plants
. And who said growing good shit is cheap, if you know how to
make your own soil go for it, if you can't then take are advice
and buy some foxfarm soil and nutes it's not gonna be cheap
but im telling you how to start off good and you might get your 2-3OZ
or maybe more but you gotta put some time an money into it.

holy crap people....a newbie comes here and you throw sooo much info on him and he still doesn't really listen.

i suggest to you, mac.os.x that you read, read, read. when you have a more specific question, then ask.

there's tons of different ways to grow.

man i'd love to do 15-20 plants and get 2-3 ounces with my 600....but that's never going to happen. i'll be happy to get 8 oz from my current grow.
