New job - have to quit smoking

Just got a new job two weeks ago. The starting pay and benifits package are unbelievable. They require employees to remain drug free and a urine test could be required for any reason. I have a wife , kids , and house to worry about. This job actually makes having to quit smoking worth it. Today will be my last day as a smoker but not as a grower. I likes my smoke , but I love my family.

I was wondering, if you have a prescription and you live in CA or another state where smoking pot is legal, can a company not hire you if they find marijuana in your pee test?

This is exactally what is happening. They are telling us up front that they don't care if Colorado is saying it is okay. Our company has international contracts and it's against Federal Law. So...... No smoking pot. For $42,000 starting pay without a college degree...... Bye bye smoke.

Agreed, def give up the smoke, but theres no reason you can't smoke every now and then, pref. right after a drug test.

No such thing as extra smoke. my wife will still be a toking away, LOL . Right now , my current crop is going nuts. Girls have hit the 47" mark today and it's day 22 of 12/12. Should get 16 ozs plus.

Oh, thanks for the response. That answers that question I guess.

Sorry you have to quit but congrats on the new job!! I would quit for a job too. Too bad they do random testing, usually they just give a test before hiring someone. :(

A lousy 42,000 a year to give up your civil rights????? That is just nonsense

In Cali they follow Federal guidelines/laws My lil brother just got turned down for a dirty piss test.

Congrats! You're right, family is more important. It sucks they have drug tests, I'm sure you would perform your duties at the same level regardless if you smoke weed or not. I'm sure we can all agree that it actually helps. When something stressful happens at work, I remind myself of that five o'clock j and all is right again. In my opinion, companies should be testing to make sure that all of their employees are puffin...lol Voila, no more stress

why not continue to smoke and get yourself a couple of bottles of quick fix?? you could always keep it in an easily accessed place, and grab it when and if they do indeed give you a surprise ua... works great for me.. and i think that they may just be telling you that they have random ua's for this very reason.. trying to get peps to stop just in case..\

idk man.. i feel you about loving the wife and kids and wanting to do what's best for them.. but it just pisses me off that companies try and dictate what their employees can and can not do when they are away from work.. basically makes me sick..
anyhoo's, if you think quiting smoking is your best choice, g/l with that..

Yeah. I agree with racer. Just get a few bottles and have it easily available. It's a different story if it was a hair test. It's great though that your willing to quit to better your family so mad probs to that man. Just thought you should know you have other options lol

Congrats on your Job and I commend you on looking out for your family.........very mature attitude.................so if they just test for pot I figure you can smoke opium instead..........LOL....sorry couildnt be all serious in a post.........but really CONGRATS and +rep for you.

In this economy, you're lucky if you find a fulltime job with benefits, especially without a college education. I'd want to get my foot in the door.

This is coming from a person who chooses not to work often.

I talking 4 weeks vacation , 9 paid holidays ( they threw in day after Thanksgiving , X-mas eve , and New Years eve as paid days ) , 40 hrs sick pay , Full medical and Dental for entire family of four , a back massage once a week , they buy saftey boots and glasses, and in the cafeteria, free drinks and fruit 24/7 .
