New tent, Carbon filter question

So I bought a grow tent, 4X4X6.5 and have a 600HPS Light, 4"Inline Fan with Carbon Filter and was viewing others setups, now apparently you can use it as a "scrubber" which I don't know what that means, I think it means circulate the air within and kill the odor, or blow the hot air out the tent, this method I am unsure what term to use. I definitely have a odor problem, whats the best way to set up? Do I literally just mount the 2 together inside the tent and plug in and call it a day or should I hook it up to one of the preexisting port holes that are already cut out of my tent? I hope this makes sense to someone. Thanks

a carbon scrubber is just a tube with carbon stones(like for a fish tank filter) that you mount a fan to, to blow the funk air through it.
