New to growing, any tips?

So i have ordered my indica seeds and waiting for them to arrive.

For now i am reading ed rosenthal's book waiting for the seeds to arrive.
I think this book makes things a little bit complicated for me, its not like how you simply diy following 1 2 3, its filled with info and lots of teks. But gonna read it all anyway and its a small book.

-So after the seeds arrive I'll germinate them using a wet towel in a zip lock bag.
Should i close the zip lock bag?

-gonna buy the specific lamps.

-gonna buy a 5 gallon pot and use 4 parts TOPSOIL unsterilized or pasteruized 1 part verm and 1 part perlite.

-plant the seedlings.

-grow em for certain amount of time then flower them.

-harvest and dry.

Still needs to know how to apply nutrients and when to water them (i have read that you should water them when ever the soil gets dry).

Any tips are welcomed, i am trying to keep it as simple as i can.
Gonna keep this thread updated.

Cheers.

Id use promix for soil since your new you dont wanna be doing anything to complicated, id also get one of those started nutrient boxes that come with a feeding chart and that will really help you out, everyone does nutes different you can feed every week or every other its up to you and how your plants respond to it. Theres allot that goes into it and this forum is your best friend. just try to keep questions specific. good luck

I would recommend 1/3 peat, 1/3 vermiculite, 1/3 compost (try to get from multiple source)

If using nutrients it's best to start out at a lower than recommended dose.

Water when pots get lighter.

here's what I do;
seed soaked in well water until cracked open.
into a rapid rooter moistened until roots show outside
into a gallon bag of promix hp and a shot of fish powder concentrate.
water a quart/until run off, dont water until light again
I veg under 24 hour 75 lighting until I need to flower that strain, up potting to
a five gallon bucket of pro mix, more fish powder and Organicare dry fertilizer per instructions, add one gallon of water to the four gallons of dirt/or run off, and dont water till light again.
I put the pot in the flower room under 12/12 light, add more organicare ferts as instructed until finished 60-70 days later
I cut it down and trim off the buds, onto a drying rack in a controlled room for a week or two and they are packaged and gone.

The single most important factor ive learned from growing is the choice of medium your plant grows in. Ive done soil, coco coir, and hydro. Coco coir wins by a landslide, you will be amazed the difference it makes. With soil i had all types of issues, fungus gnats, over watering, nute and ph problems. Ph problems and soil is a nightmare, have fun fixing that. With coco coir, a simple flush fixes just about any problem because ph is the same for all coco so after flushing no need to worry about unbalanced ph problems. Hydro is another one that is full of problems, if your power or pump goes out for any reason kiss your plant bye especially if its during the summer. I like mixing coco coir with perlite, a good 80/20 ratio is perfect. Loosens up the coco coir, gives room for roots to grow and airs it out, also makes over watering just about impossible. You can also reuse coco coir as many times as you like saving money and time in the process.

I grow in organic composted soil. Feed depends on what stage of life the plant is at. And how fast the medium drains. I don't use synthetic nutrients. And run mine with a high quality COB-LED light.

Seedlings only get water for the first week or until they start going yellow from hunger. Slightly older plants get a light feed twice a week. And those in full veg get fed when they look like they need it (yellowing or drooping). And the medium is dry up to an inch or so from the surface.

In veg, your humidity is fine anywhere from 30-75%. In flower. You'd want it to be under 50% but not lower than 30%.

Lights wise. CFLs are fine. They produce a little heat- but nothing a small exhaust fan can't manage.

LEDs are good. They emit light in only the direction they're pointed, rather than just everywhere. And generate far less heat than HID.

HID still seems to output the most greenery over the other options. Though a HID will still produce the most heat. Where as the LEDs will run the most efficient. And CFLs are the cheap intro option.

I'm not sure the relevance. But, when I first started. I was monitoring everything all the time. And I had so many issues with ph. My plant was constantly yellowing at different ends. I got stuff all from that one.

This time round. I watered when my plant drooped. And fed every second or third time. Or when she started to get pale. I looked at ph once or twice. And things were fine. I also didn't have so many issues with gnats due to not watering every second day. Or with so much. I've got more than double from this run. Since leaving her more to her own devices than with the first plant.

Thanks guys for your replies.

Can i use soil from my backyard? do i have to prepare it in a certain way?

I am going to use soil, verm and perlite.

What are my options to cover the wall? i cant paint the walls white and i cant find panda film and i can't order it online because of my country.
I can get mylar (red one) or emergency blankets and i can get foil of course.

Do i have to cover the whole room walls (its a big room) with whatever i am going to use to reflect the light or only near the plants (i am going to grow only five)?

Gonna read more about the lightning and fanning systems but i have no problems on this area!

Ohh man, I am a good mushrooms cultivator and this seems to me way harder!

Gonna read more, any tips or links are always welcomed, gonna keep this thread updated too.

Cheers.

If you are growing inside, screw soil. Do the coco and perlite thing, drain to waste.
There are many hydro nutrient kits on the market, start cheap and change what you find needs improvement.

To grow indoors properly is expensive to start. Over here just lights, pumps, ducting, extractor, carbon scrubber, dehumidifier and clamps is $1500, without your actual grow gear like pots, tubing, nutes, electricity, seed, clones etc. That is if you already have AC.

The Newbie center feed is a great place to start. There are so many answers on google already. It is 2017. Everything is on the net.

Should answer most questions.
Or do you want to be spoon fed.

Whats "cheaply" whats inexpensive to me might expensive to you.. Looks like you want to be indoors. Another person said to you $1500 and I thought that was inexpensive.

Good luck.

My grow is small and I didn't spend that much. I have limited experience, handful of grows but I can tell you that good led's are expensive. I have a cheap one and will be upgrading to hps soon. It works but doesn't have the penetrating power of hps and my buds are a lil lighter, therefore smaller yields. You can get a nice hps setup way cheaper than a good led.. my .02 I could have gotten hps setup for what I paid for my led, wish I had.. I started out with hps and downsized so I've seen what they do first hand..

You could, but probably not gonna be what you are looking for. And not just any "lamp"

Its not all that expensive to grow cannabis. You can grow two plants nicely in a standard wardrobe with lots of unrestricted space inside.

If you paint the inner walls flat white. Sit about 150-200w of HID light or bunch of big CFL lights above your plants. Give them some air flow with a 15w^ exhaust fan and another to circulate the air inside the grow space. And make sure they've got around 8 or more liters of medium to sit in. You can get a decent amount for not much effort.

It's called weed for a reason. It grows in dirt. In ditches and fields. As long as it's got a little food, enough light and enough to drink. It'll grow.

Once you put out the initial investment you will be good for a while, upkeep/upgrade as needed

You will grow a few grammes of iffy weed using anything less than 600W or equivalent. Is that worth 12 weeks of hiding something that could potentially get you into trouble.
You might think you grow weed, but it is the other way around. Once you are in, there is no getting out of the club. You could probably make back your layout with a decent small scale setup in about 2 cycles while having enough weed over to smoke the whole time. I have to sell a car just to set up a 4 light grow, that is between 3 and $4000 minimum unless you buy crap you need to replace every 6 months and risk setting your house on fire. As you can see it scales down in cost a bit as you increase the grow.

You can plant a seed outdoors late in the season, it will grow small and give you a tiny bit of weed too. (don't grow a Sativa, I've seen one tree out in 2 months) That is the cheapest way.

Cheapest decent cob I saw was 60w and about $200. For about the same. If you can manage the heat of the light. You can get 150w HPS for about the same.
