New to LED'S

I HAVE USED CFL'S IN PAST GROWS AND I AM HOPING THAT LED'S WILL GIVE A BETTER YIELD, BUT WHAT KIND OF WATTAGE DO I NEED TOTAL FOR THE WHOLE PROCESS? I'M THINKING ABOUT GETTING A 300 WATT SYSTEM OR SHOULD I GET THE 500 WATT SYSTEM? THIS IS MY DILEMMA. CAN SOMEONE HELP ME OUT WITH THIS?

You can do much better

1. it's not 500w

It uses 5w diodes but they are not run at full power

2. The unit of measure is umoles/m^/sec which is how much actual intensity is hitting the canopy every second

If this a quality panel that information would be front and center

That amazon light look just a aquarium light I seen for 160 on eBay there's no way that thing is worth $400.00
By a newer light like ones I posted. In 2 years they will already be out dated that's what sucks with LED.
but that 1200w is what I want for my bedroom mother tent.

From what I discern so far is that we need led solutions...Often times us noobs know more about new products because we are in a new translate/learning/state phase. Old school respect btw. We all add to concepts, base knowledge, and pushing forward actual Relevant information.
A 600w advertised led draws 300w....led panels can cover multiple spectrums.
LED:
1. led requires less power
2. covers full spectrum
3. less heat
4. flowers respond awesomely
5. heat is still fucking high with led panels...do not overlook this...must ventilate properly. don't forget!

LEDs CAN be the solution

but buyer beware

I will state one more time, if the advertising does not include umoles/m^/sec at multiple 12" intervals both horizontal and vertical, it's probably nothing you want, even if it's free

Grow Express24 if you are planning on taking Mainlinekush's idea and going off ebay for lights I would plan on incorporating a T-5 fixture or some cfls to round out the lighting. Although they appear to have a decent spectrum, I would advise adding some 6500k or 2700k depending on what the plants crave. Personally I would buy a 200W T-5 fixture and 2 of those Reflector 300W (actual draw about 180W) to keep on the outside and angle in. You would end up with 560W of extremely potent lighting. You could stagger the leds and T-5 to get an artificial sunrise and sunset that way. Just a thought.

Sincerely,

Listen to the folks above, they are correct in the fact that the 500 W light will probably only draw a maximum of 310 watts at the plug, then allow for losses at the drivers, you will see half of that.
The chinese sellers on E-bay usually tell you what the draw at the plug will be in the fine print and PetFlora can tell you about any losses due to inefficient drivers.
All of the fixtures you see on Amazon can be bought for less on E-bay, especially if you try the make an offer button.
Unless you are going for big dollars, use an E bay LED with other lighting.
My cheap Apollo UFO 180 Watt max (106 actual,) kept my Lemon tree happy last winter but since she is fruiting I am going to need more by next month.

She is currently out on the porch but will be coming back in because winter is coming.
Just cleaning up from a move but I will post one for you of my pink lemon tree.
Dwarf tree grafted to full size root stock????? Or maybe I have it backwards.
She has grown a lot so i had to upsize her pot twice, the Apollo just kept her green and flowering but 18 hours of real sun and she has spread out a bit. The bumblebees love her.

I am going to be sure to use e-bay
I wish I had waited and saved up a couple more bucks and gotten an A-51 or even gone with the Pro Grow from Hydroponics hut, and now with a Plasma lamp for flowering to go with it would be under 500.00 USD for the 180 W LED and the 80 Watt plasma light.
That is something I would like to test.
