Newb 1st Grow ( Nirvana Blackberry : Soil : 300w LED : 3x3 tent )

Its been a few days! Keep pulling the original tops down one node at a time, and also pulled a second set of tops down using some velcro. I am not really sure how many more tops or how much bigger I should let this get? Could I run into a problem where it is to big for the amount of soil I have? (without outgrowing the tent)

Looks like she needs to be thinned and put into flower... over lapping leaves can hold the moisture from transpiring and lead to problems.. If you want clones now is the time..
She is beautiful!

Alrighty! Small update, just been letting her even out a bit and watering like normal. Night temps and humidity are getting a bit low now that winter is setting in but do not think it should be an issue. Will keep an eye on them though.

  • Gave her a good watering, tomorrow she will have a short day of light (to get on a good schedule for tending) followed by a 24 hour dark period before going to 12/12!

I took a look at another grow journal with a blackberry and that thing is tall, looks like I might be in for a tripple in size Should not be a problem, just all unknown at this point.

Also, I need to do some reading on feeding her, I have the fox farm trio but I have not given her any food up to this point, just a little top off of worm castings a few weeks in. The random mix of soil seems to be doing just fine thus far.

Looking really good.. How many watts are you at now? Be easy with the nutes.. see how she responds...

I have been at 200w for the last 9 days or so. I figured I would start bumping it up slowly again after the flip.

Few of the smaller leaves way down low dried up.. just a little to clean off but not too bad. I have cleaned a few other ones that were yellowing down there.


Net came in today, not exactly sure how high to put it at this point.. Don't want to lock myself down to a specific position quite yet, watering will be a bitch

That is an awesome looking bush, looks great. Just make sure you have good vent in that tent. I have the same size and I'm getting pounded with PM 3 weeks into flower.

Thanks for the heads up. I have a 6" hyperfan with carbon filter pulling the air out, but it is set pretty low. Will keep an eye out for any issues. What is the cause for you, too much humidity / not enough circulation? I have not really read up on powdery mildew.

can't wait til it hits the screen lol. that is a seriously perfect plant :O

You know to be honest it's most likely because my scrog is so dense. I scrogged 4 plants in there and there isn't much room for air to pass through. So I am am constantly defoliating to allow airflow and spraying for mildew. Kind of a pain. Hopefully the extra work will pay off at harvest! Sounds like your ventilation is adequate. I have a 190 cfm 4 inch fan, which mathematically is more than enough for the cubic feet, but with the scrog I might need to upgrade. Also yeah, humidity has been an issue, stays around 60% right now. Just keep an eye out for PM and let me know if you run into it. I should be a pro at killing it by then. You might want to read up and take some preventative measures now while you don't have PM because once it hits you, it's can ruin your crop quick. I can tell you that once your screen fills out in that small tent your RH is going to jump 10-15% and I havent figured out an effective way to bring it back down yet. Check out my grow journal if you have a chance, let me know what you think.

Thanks for the info! I will take a look at what you got growing. Good to know about the humidity, I was worried it was getting too low right now, a little bit extra may not hurt this time of year.

Haha yeah I was worried about it being low when I was in veg too, I was sitting around 35 or 40. Then the canopy filled in and flipped to 12/12 and now I can't get it under 60.

id have turnedthe lights up full blast sooner and good to see the net, with leds u need to keep the canopy as level as possible you dont have the penetration of HID light so if you get a few branches stickin up (supercrop) bend then down flat to the canopy again.

scrog and supercropping are the most important training techs i think!

Whats the max wattage those cobs can run in this setup? how come you didn't go with 5 ?
I'm contemplating a 5x3590 setup but with the 240-1400 driver. Just learning up on Leds and it seems ..inefficient? (compared to HID) to go under 50% efficiency on the Leds. Cheers

Thanks! I am interested to see how big she gets. I have seen a couple other blackberrys that are way tall so I am not sure how this is going to go. So far it has been so short and bushy I am not expecting a huge stretch but we will see.

Whats the max wattage those cobs can run in this setup? When I have them turned all the way up the idevice shows ~330W at the wall.
How come you didn't go with 5? Honestly this setup just hit my price/watt sweet spot at the time I was putting everything together. When I drew it out in my head it seemed like 4 would provide good coverage for the 3x3 space and adding one more was a bit of a premium. I was also concerned about a hot spot in the middle. (probably just what I told myself to keep the wallet from flattening ) I think 5 would be great in the 3x3 space but I am very happy with the performance of this kit thus far.

Efficiency does seem to be king when you get into the fine details of building an LED setup. I honestly only went so far with the calculations though, I was more concerned with the advantages of LED (heat, size, power draw ...) total wattage and cost. I honestly don't know how much difference it makes to the end result of the plant running at 35% vs 50% efficiency etc. I'm also increasing the wattage gradually so efficiency has been higher with it dialed down. I'd focus more on getting enough lights to cover your area and then total W per square foot. You can decide how to best maximize efficiency at that point but I wouldn't focus on it as hard as the rest. Unless you are trying to get every last ounce of performance possible I am not sure how much it matters. (there are several LED nerds here that know way more than I do though, they may have more evidence to present a case for efficiency as it relates to tangible plant growth)

Update time again. I was really hoping to have a good one for you all but it has not done much in the way of stretching at all. It does not look unhealthy but only shot up a few inches over the last couple weeks. I reached out in the scrog thread and it seems like I should have had the net up before switching to flower, so I put it in about 12 inches from the soil. It has a lot of buds forming so that is good, just kind of worried that it did not stretch much...
