Newb Grow

I haven't tried to grow in over 25 years. In my youth, I grew alot outdoors but we were just unsophisticated country boys growing plants from local supply. After all these years, I decided to give it a go and grow my own. This is my first grow, so I consider myself a newbie. I purchased some quality Berry Bomb and Pineapple Chunk beans but decided to start with seeds from some quality herb from the Napa area in California. I am not sure of the varietal of this grow but it was some above average regs that did the trick. It definitely has some indica in it but I have no idea of its composition. I didn't want to start with the high quality beans just in case I messed it up. So this is my test grow, basically.

My setup:
2x2x4 grow tent
150 watt HPS
Veg Light: 18 hours
Flower Light: 12 hours
Food: 20-20-20 MR during veg and 14-34-18 Peter's during flower

I started these from beans in early April and they were transplanted to soil in mid April. In late April, I moved these to their permanent 2 gallon pots and they have been growing like crazy sense then. As I am running out of height space, I put these into the flower phase this past Sunday switching the lighting to 12 hours and the fertilizer to the Peter's. During veg, I fed these twice per week with diluted MR and now that they are in flower mode I am adding Peter's every 4th day and watering in between feedings.

They have not indicated sex yet but I am checking them frequently for signs. Right now, I think I may have one male out this batch but as it has been so long since I grew and my eye sight is not what it used to be I hope that I am not missing something. But these have only been in flower phase for a few days so it still maybe too early to tell.

Attached are some pictures and I will give updates on how things are growing. Appreciate any feedback, insights in the potential variety or advice on the sex of these jewels that you can provide. If I can get these successfully completed, I will get started on the BB and PC grow next.

Well, 6 days into 12/12 light and they are looking very nice. Already starting to show some clear hairs and bud formation on a few of the tops and along the nodes. So far all of them still seem to be indicating female. I am sticking to my feeding regime applying Peter's every 4th day and they are responding pretty well. They did go into stretch very quickly and jumped another 2-3 inches in the first 3 days. One top did get a little toasty being so close to the light so I had to reposition her and now I am misting the tops once per day to try to prevent that from happening anymore. They have not increased their height in the past 3 days and seem to be bushing out more. I will update with some more pictures later next week when it should be easier to see the changes.

I have not received any replies to my thread but feel free to make comments or suggestions.

Well, last week was the sad week of flowering. After being in flower for just 7 days the males came out. It was amazing to me that they seemed to indicate male over the course of one day or I am may have just misread them. Out of 10 plants, 6 were male. A sad, sad day. I am looking forward to my next grow already where I will be growing premium female beans and hopefully, not lose over half my crop.

The remaining females are doing well and starting to flower. My only challenge is keeping them from getting burned by the lights. On my next grow I will convert to the flowering stage about 2 weeks earlier. I under estimated the stretch. I will upload some pics of the females next week as they should be showing off pretty good by then.... well, hopefully.

Attached are some pics of the males that were sacrificed.

Sorry for the delayed updates. I have been traveling quite a bit lately so I was only home on the weekends and then back out again. These have been in flower since the beginning of July. So they are about 45 days into flowering. They are looking pretty good for bag seed but I still have no idea what the strain is. They are pretty different from one another to have come from the same bag. The one with the top cut off is the most different of all of them. The top is curing now and should be ready for a sample in the next week or so.

Right now the trics are about 50% cloudy but the buds have not filled quite enough yet. I am running them on pure water at this point with no nutrients as I think these will be ready to harvest soon. I hope so as I am ready to get the good batch of beans going for some quality. These plants are about 4.5 feet tall, taller than I wanted them but hey you got to go with the flow sometimes.

If anyone is following this thread.... I would like to know your thoughts on the strain of these but I suppose it might be too difficult to tell.
